Troy Roberts

(CBS)  Roberts was named a correspondent for 48 Hours in December 1998. His reports for the broadcast have ranged from a story on the rise in hate crimes to a report on the use of humans as research subjects to an investigation into a destructive cult.

Roberts also has covered a wide range of news stories for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, CBS This Morning and CBS News Sunday Morning. As a correspondent for the CBS Evening News, Roberts' assignments included investigative stories for the broadcast's "Eye On America" segment and political stories on the 1996 campaigns of Bill Clinton and Bob Dole.

He also covered the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and the bombing that occurred during the event, for which he received an Emmy Award. Roberts anchored CBS News reports from the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway, and live coverage of many major international events, including the signing of a Middle East peace agreement and the inauguration of South African President Nelson Mandela.

Before that, he served as co-anchor of the CBS Morning News (1995-96). Roberts joined CBS News in 1993 as co-anchor of the overnight broadcast Up to the Minute. In that capacity, he conducted live interviews with a variety of news makers and personalities.

Prior to joining Up to the Minute, Roberts was a reporter for WCBS-TV, the CBS owned station in New York (1990-93). He reported for Channel 2 This Morning and anchored local news segments during CBS News' This Morning.

Roberts was a reporter for KATU-TV Portland, Ore. (1987-90) and served as host and producer of a weekly 30-minute news magazine at KPIX-TV, the then-CBS affiliate and now CBS owned station in San Francisco (1985-87).

He was born on Sept. 9, 1962 in Philadelphia. Roberts graduated from the University of California-Berkeley in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in political science. He lives in New York.
