Report Finds No Link Between Children's Vaccine and Autism

(CBS)  For several years now, there has been increasing concern that some vaccines given to children may be linked to autism. But a new report says parents can rest easy. Our health correspondent Dr. Emily Senay explains.

On Monday, a report from the Institute of Medicine was released which addresses concerns that some parents have had about a possible connection between the vaccine for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) and the development of autism. A committee of 15 experts who were selected by the Institute has concluded that there is no link between the MMR vaccine and autism.

The report says that there may be rare incidences, with a small number of children, where the MMR vaccine "could contribute" to the development of autism, but the committee did not find any evidence of this. This means that they cannot completely rule out the possibility of this happening in a very rare case, but they didn't find any indication of a link.
