Senator John McCain's Skin Cancer Had Not Spread
I'm very confident, and the doctors are very confident," says the Arizona Senator. "We'll have this thing done very quickly and in a very short period of time I'll be back on the straight talk express campaigning for our candidates around the country as well as for Governor Bush."
The former Vietnam war-prisoner added, "I've been in a number of fights in my life, and this is just another one, and I'm sure I'll prevail."
CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer reports that McCain's cancer was discovered during a physical that he underwent at Bethesda Naval Hospital the day after he addressed the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia on Aug. 2.
This is the second time McCain has been diagnosed with a melanoma. In 1993, he had a similar lesion removed from his shoulder.
