More On Jim Schutze

(CBS)  Jim Schutze is a nationally awarded columnist and author who has written extensively on racial politics and crime. For each of the last three years, he has been a recipient of the Unity Award, a national prize for journalism on racial issues.

Schutze is the author of five narrative non-fiction books on true murder cases, of which two have been finalists for the Edgar Alan Poe Award (Mystery Writers of America), considered to be the "Oscar" of crime writing. His more recent Edgar finalist was By Two and Two (William Morrow, 1996).

Schutze has been nationally awarded for his work as an investigative newspaper reporter. He is currently the city politics columnist for the Dallas Observer. The Association of Alternative Newsweeklies recently awarded Schutze a national First Place for the best column of political commentary.

Schutze graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Political Science and History in 1971. He has lived in Texas since 1978, where he has been a Dallas bureau chief and columnist for various newspapers.

Schutze, 55, is married to Mariana Greene, an editor and writer in Dallas. They are the parents of a 15-year-old son, Will.
