Hornets Inch Closer To Bucks
Eddie Robinson scored 20 points six off alley-oop dunks as the Charlotte Hornets moved within three games of Central Division-leading Milwaukee with a 100-90 victory over the Bucks Saturday night.
Jamal Mashburn returned after missing Thursday's win over Orlando with a bruised sternum to score 15 points and grab 12 rebounds as the Hornets clinched the tiebreaker between the teams by winning the season series 3-1.
Elden Campbell had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and P.J. Brown had 11 points and 12 rebounds as the Hornets won for the 11th time in their last 13 games.
Charlotte had a 59-36 rebounding edge.
Ray Allen led Milwaukee with 32 points, but 24 came in the first half as the Bucks' three-game winning streak came to an end.
The Hornets led by nine early in the fourth quarter and withstood several Bucks rallies. David Wesley's 3-pointer with 1:58 left gave Charlotte an insurmountable 11-point lead.
The Bucks led 23-21 after the first quarter, thanks to 11 points from Allen.
Milwaukee starting forward Darvin Ham picked up three fouls in the period, while Hornets point guard Baron Davis played just six minutes after being charged with two fouls.
Davis was called for his third foul on a drive to the hoop with 9:11 to play in the second qarter and sat out the rest of the half.
Meanwhile, Allen continued his hot hand in the second. His fourth 3-pointer with 17 seconds left helped the Bucks carry a 47-46 lead into halftime. Allen had 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting at the break.
Allen had just four points in the third quarter as the Hornets went in front. Charlotte built the lead to 74-68 after three quarters, thanks to a no-look alley-oop pass from Davis to Robinson with 42 seconds left.

Hornets reserve guard Eldridge Recasner missed his second straight game with back spasms. Charlotte has two more games left on its season-long five-game homestand: Monday against Chicago and Wednesday vs. Vancouver. The Bucks were in Charlotte since early Thursday, but coach George Karl flew to Milwaukee Friday to watch his son Coby play in a high school basketball playoff game. He returned Saturday morning.
