Interview With Jim Van Daele
(CBS)
In an interview with CBS News Correspondent Jim Stewart, Jim Van Daele of Big Horn County, Mont., speaks about his hunting trip when his Remington Model 700 rifle went of. The following is a full transcript of the interview.
Jim Van Daele: "We were out white tail deer hunting about 8 miles north of Hardin and we saw a deer come up out of the brush and I got out to shoot at the deer. I was with my brother in law and my father."
Van Daele: "I thought I dipped the rifle in the snow and I pulled it back up. I had a bullet in the chamber and I went to wipe the barrel and I was hanging just onto the stock and it went off.
Van Daele: "I was really surprised that it went off all by itself and that it shot my finger off."
Van Daele: "I think Remington should step up to the place and do something about it. I think they ought to have a recall done on them and have them checked out."
Van Daele: "I dont want this to happen to anyone else."
