Cheez Whiz As Cleaning Agent?

(CBS)  Can you clean your floor with nail polish remover or wash your walls with toothpaste? You bet. Common household products can be the simplest and least expensive ways to clean your house.

Joey Green, author of Clean Your Clothes with Cheez Whiz, has discovered hundreds of little-known uses for well-known products.

When Green was an advertising copywriter, he was asked to come up with alternative uses for the product Nestea. While researching the project he found that companies kept files with notes from people who would share stories of the unusual uses for their products. Here are some of the offbeat ideas Green has come across.

Cutex Nail Polish Remover

This product can clean scuff marks from shoes off floors without damaging them. The acetone in the nail polish remover is a solvent that breaks up marks.

Green has also found that the remover can clean scuffs off patent leather shoes, remove burns on wood furniture and take off bumper stickers.

Colgate Regular Flavor Toothpaste

This toothpaste is a mild abrasive, according to Green. It's gentle enough to clean your teeth and can also polish silver and gold items.

Green says it can also remove crayon from walls, scratches on glassware and Kool-aid moustaches from kids' faces.

Efferdent Tablets

In the same way Efferdent can remove tartar from dentures, its effervescent action can also remove dirt from diamonds, Green says.

Green says it can also be used to clean toilets and cooking pots.

Bounty Paper Towels

A few sheets of Bounty and a common household iron can clean spilled wax from tablecloths and carpets. Green recommends placing a Bounty cloth on top of the wax and sliding a warm iron over the affected area. The heat from the iron will melt the wax and it will get sucked up into the paper towel.

Cheez Whiz

As he claims in title of his book, Green says this product can remove grease from clothes. The natural enzymes in Cheez Whiz cut through the grease. Just put a glob on the grease stain, let it stand for five to 10 minutes and put it in the washer.

Other Stain Busters

These products ill remove liquid stains on clothes, according to Green.
