Teen Sensation Sings With Barbra
(CBS)
Fifteen-year-old Lauren Frost looks like Barbra Streisand and sings a lot like her, as well. In fact, the likeness is so apparent that Frost was chosen to play the young Barbra in Streisand's upcoming concert tour. Frost joined CBS News Early Show Co-Anchor Jane Clayson and explained how she landed the coveted role.
"I'm from Chicago and I came out to Los Angeles for my very first time last summer. And two days before I was supposed to go home, I got this audition. My agent got me this audition for a secret project," Frost said.
"They didn't want to spill any details about what the show was going to be about. So they just said it was a secret project. I had to come and I sang for the casting director. And then from there, I had two call-backs while I was home. Then they flew me back out and I met with Barbra.
"I sang for her first, and Marvin Hamlisch was playing the piano. And then I sang You'll Never Know and Something's Coming and Barbra liked what I did so much, she got up and started singing with me
It was pretty amazing."
Frost said she grew up listening to Streisand's singing, but she didn't particularly try to sound like her.
"A lot of people have said I look like her and I don't know, it's a real privilege for people to say that to me. I just love being compared to her in looks, but, you know, I don't think anybody can compare to Barbra Streisand in her voice and her talent. So I'm just glad that they saw that in me."
Frost sang with Streisand in her Millennium concerts and on her tour in Australia.
During her The Early Show interview, Frost sang You'll Never Know. It was Streisand's first recording when she was 13 years old, and now it's Frost's first recording too. Frost is currently working on a CD of her own, and has just signed a deal to guest star on three episodes of the Disney Channel's Even Steven.
