All's Hunky Dory For New Papa Bowie
Rock star David Bowie and his wife Iman welcomed their first child Tuesday, a daughter they named Alexandria Zahra Jones.
The baby was born at an undisclosed hospital at 5:06 a.m. and weighed 7 pounds, 4.6 ounces, publicist Mitch Schneider said.
"David assisted in the delivery and cut the umbilical cord," Schneider said. Bowie and Iman, a Somali fashion model, met in 1990 and married in 1992.
When they announced they were going to have a baby, Bowie said: "It's been a long and patient wait for our baby, but both Iman and I wanted the circumstances to be absolutely right, and didn't want to find ourselves working flat out during the first couple of years of the baby's life. This is a wonderful time in both our lives."
Bowie has a grown son Duncan, 29, from his previous marriage. Iman had a daughter, Zulekha, 22, from her marriage to professional basketball star Spencer Haywood.
