Spook-tacular Crafts

Create Some Frightfully Fun Decorations

(CBS)  With the year's spookiest holiday almost here, if you haven't decorated your house yet, here are some ideas.

FamilyFun magazine's Deanna Cook shared some Halloween craft ideas with CBS News' Russ Mitchell.
With a little creativity and items from around the house, you can create some frightfully fun crafts.

Pumpkin Painting
Instead of carving pumpkins, decorate them with paint. This is a safer alternative to carving for little kids. They can paint any face or something more elaborate such as a wicked witch to scare those trick-or-treaters.

An inexpensive way to make a skeleton involves using milk jugs. You need nine empty milk jugs, scissors, a craft knife, a low-temperature glue gun and string.

Use one jug for the head, and another for the rib cage and glue them together. Two jug handles become the shoulder blades and the bones. Skeleton feet and hands can be cut out of milk jug scraps. Tie the bones to the skeleton using a hole punch and string.

Clip-On Paper Bats
Invite a swarm of cute bats to your Halloween party. All you need is black construction paper, glue, scissors and clothespins. Cut bat wings and the body from black paper. Glue on a clothespin to finish the bat.

A ghost windsock can catch the breeze outside your house on Halloween.

Tape crepe paper streamers along the bottom of a large rectangle of poster board.

Turn the paper over and glue facial features on the front.

Staple it together: twice at the bottom and once or twice at the top. Staple on a strip for hanging purposes. Then put it up and watch the streamers flutter in the wind.

Spider Pop
This is a sweet surprise to give trick-or-treaters. To make one, you need a lollipop and four black pipe cleaners. Twist the pipe cleaners around the stick of the lollipop and, for extra spooks, glue on googily eyes.
