Blazers' Sign Joe Kleine

The Portland Trail Blazers signed free agent center Joe Kleine to a one-year contract Wednesday.

Terms were not disclosed.

The 7-foot Kleine played last season with the Phoenix Suns, averaging 2.2 points and 2.2 rebounds in 31 games.

The 14-year NBA veteran was a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic basketball team in 1984 and has an NBA championship ring for his 1998 season with the Chicago Bulls.

The Blazers open their 1999 preseason schedule with an Oct. 12 matchup against Seattle in Corvallis, Ore. Their regular season opens Nov. 2 in Vancouver against the Grizzlies.
