TONIGHT ON THE CBS EVENING NEWS
Here's a look at what we are working on for tonight's broadcast of The CBS Evening News from Anchor and Managing Editor, Katie Couric:
Hi everyone.
Tonight, America salutes the men and women who’ve served in the military. President Obama paid a special visit to the section of Arlington National Cemetery where Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are buried. It was just one of many tributes to veterans around the country. David Martin continues to follow the Fort Hood investigation -- including whether the military or the FBI missed key signs that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was communicating with known radicals. For more on this story, Click Here
Also tonight, Sharyl Attkisson Follows the big money that Indiana Congressman Steve Buyer has raised for his non-profit scholarship foundation. Almost all of it comes from corporations that have business before Buyer’s committee. What does he have to say about that?
Was the pilot drunk? British police say a United Airlines pilot has been charged with having too much alcohol in his system. 51-year-old Erwin Washington was arrested yesterday, shortly before he was scheduled to fly a Boeing 767 with 124 passengers and 11 crew members from London to Chicago. He's the third U.S. pilot in 13 months to be arrested for being over the limit imposed on airline staff. What's going on here? CBS News Correspondent Nancy Cordes will have that story tonight.
Finally, David Martin updates a remarkable soldier’s story. Lt. Brian Brennan lost both his legs to a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. He was unresponsive, and in a coma, until a visit from General Petraeus. One special word from the General brought him back from the brink of death. Now, the two have been reunited, and you won’t believe how well Lt. Brennan is doing.
See you tonight. Katie
Here's an early look at one of the stories we are working on for Thursday night's broadcast of The CBS Evening News: American employees spend an hour and a half online during the workday. But many of those sites aren't exactly job-oriented -- and now businesses are watching. We'll show you how they're cracking down tomorrow night, only on The CBS Evening News.

In addition to the day’s top news, here's a look at some of the stories we are working on for tomorrow morning's broadcast:
As fallout from the tragedy at Fort Hood continues, we’ll be joined Thursday morning by Senior Sgt. Mark Todd, one of the first responders to the grizzly scene unfolding in the Soldier Readiness Processing Center. The 42-year-old retired soldier -- now working as civilian police at Fort Hood -- joined Sgt. Kimberly Munley in a heroic exchange of gunfire that ultimately halted the alleged gunman’s rampage, no doubt preventing the death toll from rising above its final tally. Join us as we hear Sgt. Todd’s incredible tale of bravery and get a first-hand account of the gruesome scene.
While many people are familiar with the fact that food borne illnesses can make you sick for a few days or weeks, many people are unaware that food borne illnesses can actually stay in your system and cause damage to you later in life. Medical Correspondent, Dr. Jennifer Ashton will have valuable information you'll want to know about so that you can keep your family safe. Definitely a Healthwatch you won't want to miss.
In this tough economic climate, sometimes some good, solid financial advice can be a priceless commodity. Well, Thursday morning, you’ll get just that as we’re joined by CBS Financial Advisor Ray Martin. He’ll be live in our studio to offer you tips on the best ways to set up assisted living for elders as well as what you should do with the money you get from your tax return. Helpful hints you won’t want to miss!
Believe it or not, but many of your favorite holiday shopping stores are already sold out. Stores like Walmart, Target, Toys R Us and many others have decided not to stock their shelves fully this year due to concerns that shoppers won’t spend as much. So, if your children haven't given you their wish lists yet, you'll want to know what's likely to be on them because fulfilling those Christmas wish lists may not be so easy. Tune in tomorrow morning for a peek at the top five hottest and most requested toys and great tips on where to find them.
Plus, it’s the end of the world as we know it -- well, not quite yet according to the popular 2012 doomsday prophecy, but Hollywood has decided it’s time to milk that cash cow a little early. Actor John Cusack, one of Hollywood’s most versatile leading men, joins us in our studio Thursday morning for a look at his new end-of-the-world blockbuster 2012, which is set to hit theatres on November 13. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of one of John's most beloved early hits, Say Anything -- which also happened to be writer Cameron Crowe's directorial debut -- and to celebrate, Crowe and Cusack have just released a new special edition DVD. We’ll get an inside look at John’s upcoming release and take a look back at one of the film’s that helped shape his acting career.
Our special Early Record Breakers series continues tomorrow morning with a look at two more unusual Guinness World Records. First, you’ll meet 9-year-old Jake Lonsway, his mother Julie and their world record 300-pound ball of -- well, you’ll just have to tune in to find out! But whatever it may be, it’ll be out on The Early Show plaza for all to see. Then we’ll introduce you to Paul “Dizzy Hips” Blair -- the Hula-Hoop Man. What started as a hobby to help pass the time at a boring job turned into a world record-setting talent for Blair. We hope you'll join us tomorrow to see him in action -- he's sure to have your head spinning!
