Former Player Stalks Thompson
Former Georgetown basketball player Kevin Millen was sentenced to two years' probation Friday for stalking former coach John Thompson and unlawful entry on the campus.
D.C. Superior Court Judge Anita Josey-Herring released Millen, 25, on the condition that he return to his home in Memphis, Tenn., and stay away from Washington.
Millen, who pleaded guilty to the charges Thursday in an agreement with prosecutors, also cannot have any contact with anyone from Georgetown and must undergo counseling.
"He has some health issues that absolutely must be addressed in order to keep him from being further involved in the court system," Josey-Herring said of Millen, who could have received up to 18 months imprisonment.
Millen was charged in November after he was caught on campus in defiance of a court order and after he made more than 30 threatening phone calls to the university's athletic office last year.
Prosecutors had asked the judge to sentence Millen to three years probation, but U.S. Attorney Robert Bowman said he was satisfied with the judge's decision.
"We want to encourage Mr. Millen to control his behavior and get on with his life," Bowman said.
Millen declined to comment at the sentencing hearing, except to ask the judge questions about his release from jail. He smiled when he was told he could be released right away.
Millen played for Georgetown from 1991-95.
