Lockerbie Authorities Seek Leads

The Wall Street Journal:

Scottish authorities are searching for new lines of inquiry in the Lockerbie bombing case, including a search for possible accomplices, now that convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdel Baset al-Megrahi has dropped his appeal, according to Scottish officials.

Spanish Court Opens Investigation Of Guantánamo Torture Allegations

AP:
A court in Spain has today opened an investigation into torture allegations against US military personnel at the Guantánamo detention centre.

Meanwhile in Berlin, Barack Obama's attorney general Eric Holder said that about 30 Guantánamo detainees have been cleared for release and urged European allies to take some of them. Holder also signalled the Obama administration might cooperate with the Spanish investigation.

Iraq’s Newly Open Gays Face Scorn and Murder

New York Times:
The relative freedom of a newly democratic Iraq and the recent improvement in security have allowed a gay subculture to flourish here. The response has been swift and deadly.

In the past two months, the bodies of as many as 25 boys and men suspected of being gay have turned up in the huge Shiite enclave of Sadr City, the police and friends of the dead say. Most have been shot, some multiple times. Several have been found with the word “pervert” in Arabic on notes attached to their bodies, the police said.
