Since 1998, Janet Leissner has been vice president and Washington bureau chief of CBS News. Her history with the network began in 1984, when she started as a producer for the “Evening News,” covering stories such as the Tiananmen Square uprising and the 1988 presidential campaign of the first President Bush. She moved on to become a senior producer for “America Tonight,” a late-night news program anchored by Charles Kuralt and Lesley Stahl during the Persian Gulf War, and then returned to the “Evening News” as a senior producer for several years before becoming bureau chief.
