My Snowy Day In Shawano

An angry blast of Wisconsin snow had just settled on the streets of Shawano when we pulled into town. The drive up from Green Bay had taken twice as long as expected giving us time to get a better handle on what had all the makings of a very interesting day, certainly if our previous experiences on this story were any indication.

Answering A Question Palin Couldn’t

Senator John McCain suspended his presidential campaign yesterday and rushed to Washington to help fix the financial crisis. And in an exclusive interview with Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, Katie Couric asked Palin for specific examples of how McCain is leading the charge for more oversight in the banking industry. Palin said, “I’ll try to find some and I’ll bring them to you.”

Chicago AG vs. R.J. Reynolds

This morning in Chicago eight state attorneys general announced they were filing a motion against R.J. Reynolds for violating the 1998 tobacco settlement by illegally marketing cigarettes to youth. The ad in question appeared in the Nov. 15 issue of Rolling Stone magazine.

More Action On Telemarketers

Another wave of actions against telemarketers who have violated the Do Not Call Registry. The six new companies who have reached civil settlements with the FTC/DOJ used clever methods to evade the Do Not Call rules. They will pay a total of 7-point-7 million dollars in fines.
