Rudy Giuliani does a nationwide webcast from a nice house in Florida. Rudy was the most behind on using the internet and YouTube but this is his second nationwide 'cast. But it's still not wildly interactive: Rudy talks 15 minutes of the 35 before we get to questions.
Rudy Giuliani addresses the Federalist Society -- making his customary joke about being happy to be among those who agree with him, unlike his days in New York, den of liberals. He snips at Hillary Clinton for being for drivers' licenses for illegal immigrants, then against, then for and against, then in favor of letting states decide. He says this is the only time in her career she has been in favor of states' rights but this is the wrong time, for he argues that borders and immigration are the job of the federal government. The rest is him praising the Federalist Society.
Pat Robertson’s unqualified endorsement of Rudy Giuliani has political analysts in a tizzy. You probably could have gotten better odds on hell freezing over than on the founder of The Christian Coalition backing the only Republican candidate who is not considered an honest-to-God social conservative.
Sound Bite: [Robertson] “To me, the overriding issue before the American people is the defense of our population from the bloodlust of Islamic terrorists."
Joe Biden continues on his roll against Rudy, quoting the former mayor wondering who's farther ahead on nuclear weapons, Iran or Korea. Getaloada the cocked eyebrow at the end.
A new radio ad running in New Hampshire highlights Rudy’s position on healthcare reform: tax deductions for those who purchase their own health insurance.
Sound Bite: “Government has never been able to reduce cost. Government never increases quality. We have the best healthcare system in the world. We just have to make it better.”
Slow-talking Texas Governor Rick Perry endorses Rudy Giuliani.
Sound Bite: “The mayor of America’s largest city is amply prepared to be the next president of the United States. And I’m not talking about just any mayor, I’m talking about America’s Mayor.”
Here's another installment of Rudy's campaign news. Of course, it's all good news: an endorsement from Tommy Thompson -- huge, they tell us a few times -- and Rudy's performance in the debate -- brilliant, of course.
Sound bite (at each bit of good Rudy news): "Nice!"
Dan Meyers from the Giuliani campaign gives a wrapup of the week's events and news. Not a bad idea for other campaigns. Meyers brags about Rudy's fundraising report -- still No. 1 in dollars among the Republicans -- and the latest poll, giving him 30 percent of the vote, seven points ahead of Fred Thompson; an ABC poll gave him 34 percent, twice Thompson's rating. they also play Rudy's latest radio commercial for New Hampshire, in which the Mayor admits he's not perfect.
