New Hampshire — The Final Analysis

Jackie Broyles and Dunlap -- the Red State Update boys -- scrutinize the New Hampshire primary results.

On Obama: “If I lost to Hillary Clinton, I’d be ready to go and fire one up.”

On Edwards: “I guess all those people sleeping on grates and under bridges didn’t come out to vote for him.”

On Hillary: “In her defense, all women cry.”

The Comeback Kid, er, Older Guy

Sound Bite: “I’m past the age when I can claim the noun ‘kid’ no matter what adjective precedes it . . . we sure showed ‘em what a comeback is.”

Still Fired Up

Senator Obama tries to put a positive spin on his second-place finish in the New Hampshire primary, citing the large Democratic turnout and the emergence of a “new American majority.”

Sound Bite: “We are ready to take this country in a fundamentally new direction. That's what's happening in America right now. Change is what’s happening in America.”

Flip Flop?

What do you do when you finish third in the first test of the campaign? You go after the new frontrunner.

Here, the Clinton camp tries to label Barack Obama as a flip-flopper by posting two videos -- one from 2003, the other from 2007 -- in which he states different positions on single payer healthcare. A little thin, plus the 2007 clip affirms what's appealing about Obama.

Snow Job

Here's another one of those treacly, faux-casual Romney family clips.

In this episode Mitt shovels snow off the deck at the Romney ski manse as his wife and kids tell us how hardworking and energetic he is -- “Even when we’re trying to relax, he’s able to relax but then he has to have a project.”

The whitest family in America then goes out and plays in the snow: Mitt gives a hesitant grandkid’s sled a hearty push -- “NOOO!!!” Mitt goes flying down the hill head first. One of Mitt’s kids tackles him and knocks him head over heels. Mitt has new gloves but he loves to wear his old duct-taped pair.

Tim Robbins Stumps For Edwards

Academy Award winner Tim Robbins joins the Edwards "Main Street Express" bus tour in Iowa and speaks to a town hall meeting in Des Moines. Robbins says the media is bamboozling voters and that Edwards has “the best chance to beat Republicans in the general election.”

Sound Bite: “Eight months ago with eight viable Democratic candidates running, we were being sold a fiction that this was a two-candidate race. Why? No one had voted yet. We’re the voters. We decide who the frontrunner is.”

Mudslinging Deconstructed

Keep The Faith

African-American religious leaders (please don’t call them the “religious left”) testify for Barack Obama at a gathering in Charleston, SC.

Sound Bite: [Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Lowery] “There’s bad crazy and there’s good crazy . . . So I think America today is ready to do that what some folk would call crazy but it’s a good crazy. It’s a good crazy. And God takes care of folks who are good crazy.”
