Asked And Answered

John Edwards asks himself three questions he wishes others would ask the other candidates. This is basically three ways to ask the same question about getting out of Iraq. He takes long rhetorical detours to get there.

By the way, did presidential candidates used to campaign in jeans?

McCain Endorses Romney (For Governor)

The Romney campaign posts this video from 2002 of John McCain endorsing Mitt’s bid for Massachusetts governor. Silly, but at least it's better than another clip about the line item veto.

You Asked For It

The Edwards campaign used Eventful, a web company, to have towns across the country compete to get him to come visit. Columbus, Kentucky won the chance to hear his stump speech about being a poor kid who reminds us that his daddy had to borrow $50 to get him out of the hospital when he was born.

Sound bite: "I'm not the persident of the red states, I'm not the president of the blue states, I'm the president of the United States."

Obama Ad: “Believe”

Senator Obama has a new ad running in New Hampshire. Entitled “Believe,” it’s a distillation of his theme that he’s a different kind of politician. Of course, there’s no evidence to support that, but if you say something often enough, perhaps voters will "believe."

Sound Bite: “I approved this message to ask you to believe. Not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington. I’m asking you to believe in yours.”

Losing The Vegan Vote

Obama posts an invitation to the Harkin Steak Fry in Iowa, beginning with loving video of slabs of meat. Hasn't he heard that cows cause global warming?

The Essential Thompson

Fred Thompson's campaign puts out one of those three-minute bio videos candidates do love:

Sound bite: "...it's where he learned the small-town values he still carries with him today. The son of a used-car salesman...."

Uh, no offense to Pere Thompson intended, but do we really think that used-car lots are where you learn the best values? Better than Washington, perhaps. Or Hollywood, for that matter. But used cars?

Sound bite: "He happened to meet a man named Ronald Reagan. A bond was born."

How long will it be before one of the candidates claims to be Reagan's illegitimate son?

Sound bite: "Fred Thompson isn't a professional politician."

So he didn't get paid in the Senate?

Sound bite: "A role only Fred Thompson can play."

All the world's a stage and all the politicians merely actors.
