John Edwards speaks to every parent whose child is being tortured by standardized testing taking over the classroom thanks to the testing mania of no child left behind. (Can you tell I speak from personal experience?)

Sound bite: "I don't believe a child learns anything filling out a bubble on a cheap, standardized test... A friend of mine from South Carolina says, 'You don't make a hog fatter by weighing.'"

Actor Kevin Bacon is supporting John Edwards and he scares Iowans at an Edwards rally by singing “Footloose.”

Sound Bite: “Cut loose . . . Footloose . . . kick off your Sunday shoes.”

Academy Award winner Tim Robbins joins the Edwards "Main Street Express" bus tour in Iowa and speaks to a town hall meeting in Des Moines. Robbins says the media is bamboozling voters and that Edwards has “the best chance to beat Republicans in the general election.”

Sound Bite: “Eight months ago with eight viable Democratic candidates running, we were being sold a fiction that this was a two-candidate race. Why? No one had voted yet. We’re the voters. We decide who the frontrunner is.”

Even though he lags Clinton and Obama in the national polls, John Edwards is very competitive in Iowa. Here he fires up the troops in Des Moines before setting out on -- what else -- another bus tour of the state.

Sound Bite: “This cause is about making certain that America rises, that America rises up again. That America rises up in a way that not just a few do well but that everybody in this country does well.”

In this 30-second spot running in New Hampshire, John Edwards blames drug and insurance companies for the lack of universal healthcare in the US.

Sound Bite: “You’re going to sit at a table with drug companies and oil companies and they’re going to give away their power? Right. You have to take their power away from them.”

There are a whole lot of unhappy people in New Hampshire. They’re unhappy for a lot of different reasons. All these unhappy people support John Edwards. He’s not happy either -- although he says he was the first member of his family to graduate college.

This time around it's Elizabeth Edwards telling the tale of John Edwards’ father and that damn mill closing: In this version John’s mother was fixing up old furniture for resale (which she "probably" got "from New Hampshire" -- yeah, right), but then had to give up her “dream” to take a union job so she could get health insurance for the family because his father got bounced from that damn mill and lost his insurance. OK, OK. we got it. But let's get real. As far as hard-luck stories go, this is a little, um, soft.

Sound Bite: “John decided that in no place in America should anyone have to leave a job they love or stay in a job they hate because of health insurance.”

It's hard to imagine why this was made: 12 and a half minutes of a slide show of John Edwards' life. It's hard to imagine any of us having this many pictures of ourselves. But starting with his humble roots in a humble home, here are scenes from the candidate's life:
