Dueling Web Ads

The McCain campaign's advertising blitz against Barack Obama continues with a new web spot called "Barack Obama Forgot Latin America."

Featuring a thumping musical beat and Spanish captions, the ad criticizes the Democrat for not mentioning the region during his major speech in Berlin.

The ad shows Obama in Berlin listing different cities, regions and countries in the world and asks in Spanish, "Latinos? … Maybe He Forgot About Us?"

A Pew Hispanic Center poll released last week shows Obama holding a huge lead over McCain (66 percent to 23 percent) among registered Hispanic voters.

And not to be outdone on the Web ad front, the DNC is out with their own new anti-McCain Web ad -- playing off of continuing talk about the McCain ad which tied Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. The ad plays parts of a question and answer at a McCain town hall yesterday where McCain said he was "proud" of the ad. McCain's quote "we're proud of that commercial" then plays several times with pictures of Spears and Hilton form the ad to the right of McCain. The DNC is certainly trying get the upper hand in the "who went negative first" argument with McCain here.

RNC Parodies "Obama TV Ad In Berlin"

The Republican National Committee has launched a new web ad called “Obama TV Ad In Berlin."

Set to a techno dance beat, the web ad mocks Obama's appeal to Europeans, highlighting interviews with European Obama fans, including one man who sees parallels between the Democrat and Che Guevara.

The ad also flashes the word "Hasselhoff," apparently comparing Obama's draw in Europe to that of the "Baywatch" star.

McCain Web Ad Hits Obama On Public Financing

The McCain campaign released a new web ad that uses Barack Obama's past statements on public financing to attack the Democrat for turning down the funds.

Entitled "Words," the ad opens with a shot of Obama saying, "Don't tell me words don't matter."

It then cuts to Obama expressing his support for public financing and saying he'd sit down with John McCain "to make sure the system works for everybody." Then the ad shows Obama making the announcement that his campaign would turn down the public funds and proceeds to highlight newspaper editorials calling the Illinois senator's move "opportunistic" and "disingenuous," among other things.

The ad ends with an on-screen caption that reads, "CHANGE That Works For Him: Breaking His Word."

Watch the ad below.

Churchill, Roosevelt In New McCain Spot

John McCain's campaign has released a new web-only ad, "A Man In The Arena," that puts a historical spin on McCain's argument concerning national security.

The spot features both Winston Churchill and Theodore Roosevelt. The former is heard saying, "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills, we shall never surrender!"

Roosevelt, meanwhile, offers this: "Surely there never was a fight better worth making than the one in which we are in."

McCain's comments in the ad hit a similar note.

"Keep that faith," McCain is heard saying. "Keep your courage. Stick together. Stay strong. Do not yield. Do not flinch. Stand up. ... We're Americans. We're Americans, and we'll never surrender. They will."

Watch it:

In other McCain news, washingtonpost.com's Dan Froomkin points out that the presumptive Republican nominee does not seem to be trumpeting the embrace of President Bush, who endorsed McCain this week.

"As of this writing, there's no mention of [the endorsement] on the home page of McCain's Web site," Froomkin wrote yesterday. "There's no mention of it all on the Republican National Committee's home page. In fact, I can't find any mention whatsoever of the event on either Web site at all. (It's like: Bush Who?)"

Horserace was able to track down a reference to the endorsement on McCain's site. It's here – if you look hard, you'll see Bush's name under the header "Former U.S. Presidents."
