Obama Jokes With Media After Unscheduled Plane Landing

The charter plane carrying Sen. Barack Obama made a safe, unscheduled landing in St. Louis after experiencing a maintenance issue en route from Chicago to Charlotte.

CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic reports the MD-80 Midwest charter flight's diversion was being called an "unscheduled stop," not an emergency.

After the plane landed safely, a smiling Sen. Obama went to the back of the plane where members of the media were seated.

"Everything's fine guys," he said. "Just thought we'd spice things up a little bit today, don't you think?"

Up and Away With McCain

(CBS)
From CBS News' Dante Higgins:

Straight off his New Hampshire victory, John McCain’s resurgent campaign soared on a new 737 jet to campaign in Michigan and South Carolina today.

Though this fancy addition was scheduled before he took the Granite State, it’s fitting that McCain and his staff are traveling in style after his huge win last night.

Huckabee Ready To Fight Back

(CBS/John Filo)
From CBS News' Nancy Cordes, who's covering the Huckabee campaign:

Governor Mike Huckabee may be surging in the polls but he's at a serious disadvantage when it comes to money. As of September 30, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani had raised $63 million and $47 million respectively, dwarfing Huckabee's $2.3 million.

Looking to close the gap, Huckabee held fundraisers in Dallas and Houston yesterday.

I joined him on his private plane Tuesday and we discussed his decision to start firing back at his opponents.

An Unexpected Wakeup Call

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

MOLINE, ILL. -- Getting woken up by a man who might become President of the United States is quite a shock to the system.

This morning I was trying to catch a few winks on the campaign plane — and had begun to slip into a familiar dream about forgetting to study for a test — when a familiar voice started to work its way into my trance.

Aboard Air Romney

From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- For the first time in the campaign, the entire Romney press corps was invited to fly with the governor and his staff on the candidate’s chartered jet this morning. After countless delayed flights, long security lines and lost baggage, flying private was a nice change indeed.
