(CBS)
From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

(DES MOINES, IOWA) - Barack Obama was back in Iowa today – a state that he says was critical to his run for the presidency.

Republicans Not Giving Up On Iowa

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

(ST. LOUIS) - Recent political developments in the Midwest have not been promising for the Republicans. John McCain and Sarah Palin pulled out of Michigan early this month. Palin hasn’t visited Wisconsin in more than two weeks and hasn’t touched down in Minnesota in over a month.

But Iowa is one Big Ten state where the Republicans are still fighting hard. Palin holds rallies on Saturday in Sioux City and Des Moines, and McCain will follow in his running mate’s heels as he travels to Waterloo Saturday night.

Obama Criticizes McCain On Levee Funding

(CBS)

From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

(MIAMI) Barack Obama bashed John McCain’s recent trip to Iowa, arguing the Arizona senator's opposition to the Water Resources Development Act jeopardized funding for levees and flood control programs which could have helped the state.

“Both Sen. McCain and I have traveled recently to the areas that have been devastated by floods, and I know that Sen. McCain felt as strongly as I did feeling enormous sympathy for the victims of the recent flooding,” Obama said today before the U.S. Conference of Mayors, “And I'm sure they appreciated the sentiment, but they probably would have appreciated it even more if Sen. McCain hadn't opposed legislation to fund levees and flood control programs, which he considers pork."

Obama voted for the Water Resources Development Act, and although McCain was not present for the vote, he vocally opposed it. McCain argued that some projects included in the bill were wasteful. However, he and Russ Feingold (D-WI) co-sponsored an amendment to the bill which called for a review of projects by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.

Goodbye Iowa, Hello N.H.

(CBS)
From CBS News Correspondent Dean Reynolds:

DES MOINES, IOWA -- There is nothing like being with a winner on election night.

It is one of the things that makes covering politics so interesting and so much fun. A reporter can easily slip into the role of an anthropologist as he takes in the ebb and flow of emotions in the crowd. The faces upturned toward the victor astride the stage as conquering hero. Some people cry, others laugh. They strain on tiptoes for a glimpse of the “new.”
