Huckabee Vows to Support McCain Regardless of His Veep's Abortion Stance

From CBS News' Michelle Levi:

(WASHINGTON) - Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said he hopes John McCain will pick an anti-abortion rights running mate but that he would support the party's nominee regardless of his vice presidential pick.

"I hope that Senator McCain selects a pro-life running mate," the former Arkansas governor said at a press conference with evangelical leaders.

"If he doesn't I will take some comfort in him being pro-life and hope that he would make sure that whoever his running mate may be would commit also to not changing any of the policies."

From CBS News’ Joy Lin:

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Asked if he’s laying the groundwork for another presidential run, former Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee says he honestly doesn’t know. Huckabee's Last Act of Defiance

(CBS)
From CBS News' Joy Lin:

NEW YORK CITY -- Until the very end of his campaign, Mike Huckabee defied convention. While other presidential candidates would have taken half a day to gear up for a concession speech – thanking supporters in the meantime and leaking the bad news to reporters so everyone would make the official goodbye -- Huckabee decided to take care of business quickly.

At 7:59 p.m., a close senior aide signaled Huckabee was “getting close but not quite” at the point of concession. By 9 p.m., the campaign confirmed Huckabee would drop out that night. Fifteen minutes later, Huckabee took the stage at the Texas watch party to declare it was all over. He never waited for the D.C. political reporters to show up.

“We started this effort with very little recognition and virtually no resources,” Huckabee said in his speech, his wife Janet at his side. “We ended with slightly more recognition and very few resources.” His audience laughed. “But what a journey. What a journey, a journey of a lifetime. It is not lost on me where I started.”

Huckabee Angling for Debate With McCain

(CBS)
From CBS News' Joy Lin:

Huckabee: "We Will Win Texas"

(CBS)
From CBS News' Joy Lin:

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- It’s hard not interpret a campaign stop as indicative of a “last stand” when a long shot candidate for the Republican nomination visits the Alamo.

But today, in a more defiant and declarative tone than ever, Mike Huckabee stood in front of the Alamo on Santa Anna’s birthday and said he would win the state. Asked about what “realistic expectations” he had here, Huckabee said, “I think we will win Texas, that’s why I’m here.”

From CBS News' Joy Lin:

PLANO, TEXAS - "The way I look at it, it ain't over until Texas says it's over!" Mike Huckabee said to a boisterous crowd of over 2,500 people that had flattened two collapsable walls to squeeze into the room. "We win Texas and it all changes."

Huckabee Takes A Shot At Obama

(CBS)
From CBS News' Joy Lin:

PLANO, TEXAS -- Straight off the plane from Arkansas, Mike Huckabee went on a media blitz stressing his conservative credentials and also took a shot at Democrat Barack Obama.

When given the opportunity to distinguish himself from his opponents in the Democratic field, Huckabee offered some harsh words for Obama. Huckabee said Obama would "drop the guns and run away from Iraq," while he wouldn't. Huckabee said Obama would raise taxes and he wouldn't.

(CBS)
From CBS News' Joy Lin:

LITTLE ROCK, ARK. -- It's almost become a matter of course for Mike Huckabee: receiving the results of a primary night loss in his hometown, following that up with a call to McCain, appearing before reporters to insist he’s marching on, and ending the night with cable TV interview on why he's decided to stay in the race.
