GOP: Obama To "Come Down From Olympus to Be Among Mere Mortals"

From CBS News' Ryan Corsaro:

John McCain supporters are using statements previously made by Democratic candidates during this election year to attack Barack Obama today, calling him “woefully ill-prepared to be the next President of the United States.”

Former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, R-Md., mocked Obama for the setting of Obama’s convention speech tomorrow night at Invesco Field, saying, “Tomorrow you're going to see Obama come down from Olympus to be among us mere mortals. To talk about well -- we'll wait and see. We need a little bit more than a soundbite presidency. We need a little bit more than a president who is a brand.”

Giuliani Visits Terrorism Exhibit Near Democratic Convention

(CBS)
From CBS News' Ryan Corsaro:

Rudy Giuliani made an appearance just around the corner from the Democratic National Convention in Denver today at a nearby exhibit on terrorist attacks.

“People forget...this is ongoing,” Giuliani said, referring to a threat of terrorist attacks in the United States and worldwide. “This is a museum about what is happening to us now, the present, and what will be happening to us in the future.”

Giuliani made the statements after touring the Center for Empowered Living and Learning this afternoon, where he saw an exhibition called "Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere: Understand the Threat of Terrorism."

As Obama Distances Himself From A Different Pastor, Another Creates Controversy At GOP Event

(CBS)
From CBS News' Ryan Corsaro:

NEW YORK -- Vice President Dick Cheney attended a fund-raising dinner tonight for New York Republicans, which at one point was led by a pastor’s prayer that went after Barack Obama and his former controversial pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Monsignor James Lisante, a local religious leader from Long Island, prayed to God as he attacked Obama.

“Please Lord, tell Senator Obama that maybe change is a good thing,” prayed Lisante. “And maybe he should think about changing his favorite preacher.”

For Just $2.99, Rudy Giuliani Can Be YOUR President

(CBS)
From CBS News' Aaron Lewis:

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- While waiting out a layover at Ronald Reagan National Airport this morning, a fellow producer pointed it out to me:

Rudy Giuliani for President t-shirts - CLEARANCE $2.99.

The display was sitting at the front of a souvenir store in Terminal C.

At only three bucks a pop, these shirts printed with Hizzoner's likeness will surely be priceless in the eyes of some obscure political memorabilia nut 20 years from now.

I couldn't help but wonder, though: with Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton shirts prominently on display, it's only a matter of time before one of them gets the clearance rack treatment, too...

Giuliani: Obviously the Strategy Didn't Work

(CBS)
From CBS News' Ryan Corsaro:

ABOARD THE GIULIANI CAMPAIGN PLANE -- At around 28,000 feet and somewhere over Texas, Rudy Giuliani finally explained what the reality truly was.

Anticipating of his formal announcement of dropping out of the race and endorsing John McCain, Giuliani explained why his strategy for winning the presidency was a failure and what he learned from the experience.

“Obviously the strategy of ‘focus on Florida,’ ‘don’t contest in a heavy way the early primaries with the emphasis on Florida,’ - obviously the strategy didn’t work,” Giuliani admitted. “It was in fact, even having said that, the only strategy available to us.”
