McCain Mum on MLK Most of the Day

PENSACOLA, FLA. -- While most of the presidential candidates recognized Martin Luther King's birthday today, John McCain's schedule today had no rallies, no church appearances, no acknowledgement of the holiday at the top of any of his campaign events today.

He eventually was asked to comment on King at his last event tonight.

Huckabee Courts Black Vote

ATLANTA -- Criticized for failing to develop support beyond the evangelical community, Mike Huckabee has made a concerted effort to reach out to minorities. He gained the endorsement of 50 African American leaders while in town for the commemoration of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. The endorsers cited Huckabee's record on life, education, minorities, the economy, the prison system, and immigration as Arkansas governor.

“Who Let The Dogs Out?” Mitt Romney Wants To Know

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA -- Mitt Romney was greeted warmly by a largely African-American crowd at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Parade in Jacksonville. He shook hands with several dozen parade-goers and even hugged a few of them.

As he posed for a picture with a group of young people, the typically old-fashioned Romney was relaxed enough to quote from a popular hit single from a few years back.

“Who let the dogs out?” he called out, as he stood there beaming in his shirt and tie. “Who! Who!”

Hillary Heckled in Harlem

NEW YORK CITY -- After only a few hours of sleep at her home in Chappaqua, N.Y., Hillary Clinton put on her Sunday best to worship at Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem. Although Clinton recieved a nice welcome inside the church, the crowd awaiting outside was less than welcoming. Following the church service Clinton emerged accompanied by Rev. Calvin Butts, who was set to endorse her.

On Eve of MLK Day, Obama Pays Tribute

ATLANTA -- At a service at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, Barack Obama commemorated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and used the civil rights leader’s words to convey his own message.

“King inspired with words not of anger, but of an urgency that still speaks to us today,” Obama said at the church where MLK and his father were co-pastors in the 1960s.
