(NORFOLK, VA.) - There is a lot of attention and focus on Barack Obama today – not just because it’s just 6 days until the election but because the campaign planned it that way.

Today, Obama will appear in a 30-minute infomercial simultaneously on multiple TV networks, will campaign with Bill Clinton for the first time ever, and will appear in several interviews, including one on the Daily Show. So why is today so important?

Michelle Obama Meets With Hillary Clinton In Denver

(CBS)
From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

(BILLINGS, Mont.) Michelle Obama was greeted by Hillary Clinton at the Emily’s List Event in Denver today. The former first lady and the possible future first lady had a cordial conversation about their respective speeches. Clinton congratulated Obama on her speech last night while Obama wished Clinton good luck on her address tonight.

Aides say that Clinton called Michelle Obama earlier today, but the two did not connect. Obama was on her way to a campaign event in Denver.

Last night, Michelle Obama expressed gratitude to Clinton, saying, “People like Hillary Clinton, who put those 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling, so that our daughters – and sons – can dream a little bigger and aim a little higher.”

Obama will watch Sen. Clinton’s speech from Montana tonight.

(CHICAGO) As Barack Obama heads home to Hawaii for a week-long vacation with his family, his former opponent, Hillary Clinton, will spend a little time campaigning.

Amidst rumors of lingering tensions between the Clintons and Obama, she heads to Nevada where she will appear at a rally in Henderson later today.

Is Obama Getting Enough Sleep?

From CBS News' Michelle Levi:

(St. Petersburg, Fla.) Today is Obama's third day back on the campaign trail after his foreign trip and the Illinois senator is showing signs of fatigue. Last night at a fundraiser in Houston, he appeared to mistake his former opponent and current ally, Hillary Clinton, for the controversial pop icon, Britney Spears.

"Now we’ve got ads about Britney and Paris," Obama said referencing McCain's new ad comparing his opponent to the young celebrities, Spears and Hilton. "At a time when we’ve got bigger challenges than any time in our history and you’re running ads with Hillary and er – with Britney and ah Paris in it. I mean come on. The American people deserve better."

Whoops, sorry Hil.

Earlier Thursday, as Obama prepared to address an AFSCME convention via satellite, the Illinois senator was caught closing his eyes several times before his San Francisco audience tuned in.

Unfortunately for the seemingly sleepy Illinois senator, the upcoming week will likely see serious campaigning from both camps as the candidates edge in as many stops—and as much news—as possible before attention shifts overseas to Beijing August 8th for the start of the Olympic games.

Next week, Obama heads to the battleground state of Ohio where he plans to focus on the economy as he crisscrosses the state by bus.

Bill Clinton Will Campaign for Obama “Whenever He Asks”

From CBS News' Jamie Farnsworth:

(New York) In his first press conference since releasing a written statement through his spokesperson in support of Barack Obama's candidacy, former President Bill Clinton said he would campaign with his wife’s former opponent "whenever he asks."

“We had a good talk and he said he wanted me to campaign with him and I said I was eager to do so,” Clinton said at a press conference to announce his foundation's breakthrough on Malaria drug prices.

Clinton pointed out that Sen. Obama is currently gearing up for his overseas trip.

“He is busier than I am on politics anyway,” Clinton said. “I just told him whenever he wanted to do it, I was ready, so it is basically on their timetable.”
