In Call To End Partisanship, McCain Camp Jabs Bush, Obama

From CBS News' Jamie Farnsworth:

(CINCINNATI) A memo circulated by the McCain campaign Thursday morning calls for an end to partisan bickering and promotes putting the country before politics. In the same statement, the campaign hits the Bush Administration for having “disappointed many” and hits Sen. Obama for never putting “his career on the line for a cause greater than himself.”

The campaign memo goes on to highlight Sen. Obama’s decision to forego public financing and slams the presumptive Democratic nominee for frequent “present” votes in the Senate. It also aligns the Obama campaign with the same “old typical politics that have broken Washington.”

The McCain memo closes with these words: “We don't need to trade Republican partisanship for Democratic partisanship. We need to put our country first and put our politics second. That is what John McCain has done his whole life, and that is what he will do as President.”

From CBS News' Aaron Lewis:

Romney Praises Bush On Iraq

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

TAMPA, FLA. -- On the morning of the critical Florida primary, Mitt Romney applauded President Bush’s remarks on Iraq during last night’s State of the Union address.

“I thought it was very impressive,” Romney said to a crowd of about 150 at a rally in Tampa. “This is a person who’s no longer looking for a political career. He’s only thinking about what’s right for the country — what’s right for America.”

Huckabee Likes Bush's Father's Approach

(CBS)
From CBS News' Joy Lin:

WEST DES MOINES, IA – During a media availability last night, Mike Huckabee said it was “sad” that his opponents attacked his recent foreign policy speech since “they themselves disagreed with many of the points of the president’s policy” but “don’t want to admit that they did.”

Huckabee pointed out that his argument for increasing lines of communication with other countries wasn’t a personal attack on President Bush. He also elaborated on his argument for increasing lines of communication with other countries.

“This isn’t about the president, it’s about his administration’s policies, and so what I clearly spelled out was that, we need to have the kind of policies more that resemble when his father was president – when we didn’t say that if you aren’t with us right now…then that means you’re with the enemy.”
