Al Libi Salutes Scholars For Issuing Gaza Statement, Calls for Attacks on U.S., Europe

(As Sahab )
Senior al Qaeda figure Abu Yehya al Libi claimed that the “mujahedeen” all over the world are preparing to unleash their vengeance upon those responsible for “the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza” in a new video tape produced by al Qaeda’s mouthpiece As Sahab and released on militant Islamist websites Wednesday.

“The mujahideen from the east and the west are preparing to retaliate and avenge what happened and what is still happening to Muslims in Gaza at the hands of the Jews. It’s a debt in their conscience, and they shall know no rest until they pay it back…in full,” al Libi said.

Al Libi's speech came in reaction to a statement on Gaza war issued by a over a hundred Muslim scholars last January, which urged Muslims to support “jihad” in Gaza and labeled those who cooperated with the Israeli government apostates.

Al Libi urged the scholars to issue similar “fatwas,” i.e religious edicts legitimizing “jihad” in other Muslim land such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, and Eastern Turkistan. “Isn’t the tragedy in all those places the same? Aren’t all those enemies transgressors, infidels and impious?” exclaimed al Libi.

Al Libi asked the scholars to clarify to the Muslim nation that the United States and Israel formed one entity and that there wasn’t any difference between waging war against the Israeli army and striking against U.S. interests wherever they may be.

“Why should the U.S. be exempted from paying for its support just like Israel? And why shouldn’t we target it on its own land, and wherever it maybe, by bombing its military, political, economic and financial facilities?” He then turned his attention to Europe, saying that everything he said regarding the U.S. applied for Europe “especially the United Kingdom and France.”

Al Libi ended his message by saluting the scholars and discretely suggested that some form of cooperation between the two sides might be possible. “Such stances enables us to benefit from their knowledge, and put our hands in theirs…it’s a victory to the righteous that they called for.”

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden had himself issued an appeal to “the devoted committees of scholars in the Islamic world,” in an audio statement on Gaza that he released in mid-March. He asked them to establish an advisory body to create awareness about what he called true Islam amongst youths in Muslim countries, and about the future of the region.

Al Libi had released a video statement last February where he called on Somalis to rebel against newly elected president. His video released today runs over 58 minutes. He appeared sitting against a brown background, dressed a military jacket on top of his traditional dress, and a white turban on his head.

Internet Jihadist Suggest Plot To Attack Sharm El Sheikh Conference

(Al Faloja Website)
A senior member of Al Falojah militant Islamist Internet forums posted a message in which he approached the leader of al Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula with a plan to attack the Gaza reconstruction conference taking place in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt today.

The member, who used the name “Saber,” pointed out that the place, just 8 miles from the Saudi town of Ras Hemeid, will be packed with heads of states and other dignitaries, and could easily be targeted with Katyusha rockets or even mortars.

“Even if you don’t hit your targets, you know quite well what could happen if one of those rockets fell outside the conference hall,” Saber told Nasser al Weheishy, the group’s leader. “If Ban Ki-Moon has bowed for the mortars fired by the hero mujaheddin in Iraq , hundreds will be bowing for your rockets God willing,” he added.

“Saber” included some maps and a picture of Sharm el Sheikh taken from Saudi Arabia, showing the proximity of the resort town to the Saudi shores. He concluded by saying that if this was a bit of a short notice, the militant of al Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula will have plenty other opportunities to execute their plan provided they get their rockets ready.

IJU Jihadis Pledge Support For Gaza in New Video

(Islamic Jihad Union)
A group of militants from the Islamic Jihad Union (IJU) denounced the Israeli aggression on Gaza and pledged support for Palestinians in a new video posted by the group on the Internet.

The six men, all dressed in military uniforms, balaclavas and carrying AK-47s appeared in a mountainous area with snow that looked like is melting off around them. Five of them made their speeches in Turkish, while one spoke in German. This latter may be Abdul Gaffar al-Almani, who is known as “Eric B.”, a 20-year old German convert to Islam from Neuenkirchen in Saarland, who traveled to Pakistan in 2007 and joined the ranks of the IJU.

The video is 26 minutes long and is entitled “Call of Justice.”
The IJU was founded by fighters from the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan in 2002 in Pakistan’s tribal areas. In 2005, the group got closer to al-Qaeda and began plotting terror attacks in Pakistan. It is based in Mirali in South Waziristan and is known for attracting recruits from Turkey, Turkish communities in Western Europe and Muslim converts from Europe.
The video also featured short speeches by a number of other militants, who all spoke in English.
