Taliban Video Shows Attack on Military Base in Nuristan

(Neda al Jihad )
The Taliban’s media outlet Neda al Jihad released a new video of attacks carried out by the militant group against a NATO base in the “Zumyobileh-Nuristan area” last year.

The 55-minute video is entitled “Defeat of the Aggressors in Afghanistan” and opens with pictures from previous Taliban videos, including the footage of the attempt to assassinate Afghani President Hamid Karzai during a celebration in Kabul on April 27, 2008 and footage of a 2007 ambush on a joint U.S.-Afghan foot patrol in Nuristan.

The group claims to have intensified its attacks on U.S. forces based in this camp for 47 days until they were forced out. The video shows Taliban fighters, dressed in military uniforms, during their preparation for the operation followed by shots of Taliban fighters trying to shoot a Chinook down. The video also shows the militants firing mortars and engaged in a gun battle against the forces inside the base. Several Taliban fighters look like they were badly injured during the fighting.

A local commander called Osman Jawhari was interviewed on the tape. He claims the militants managed to down two helicopters and kill 95 U.S. troops and only 10 Taliban militants were killed. He also told a group of militants that he was confident they would defeat U.S. troops and force them out of Afghanistan. “We shall fight and defeat them here God willing, then we will chase them all the way to Washington,” he says.

Taliban’s former information minister Mohammed Yasser also makes a short statement to honor the militants who have been killed in the clashes. Yasser had been released along with four other Taliban leaders in exchange for the release of an Italian reporter that the Taliban captured in 2007.

Naima Trabelsi Says Her Husband Sought To Destroy Weapons Arsenal at U.S. Base in Belgium

(Mediane TV )
The wife of al Qaeda operative Nizar Trabelsi told the Islamic web-based TV broadcast Mediane TV that her husband had plotted to carry out an attack on the U.S. military base in Belgium after he returned from Afghanistan to destroy the weapons arsenal located on the base.

“It’s true that my husband has been to Afghanistan. It’s true that he intended to launch an attack on the U.S. base here, but he decided not to at the last minute,” Naima Trabelsi told Mediane TV. “There were chemical weapons, bombs and plenty other materials destined to be used in the war. He only wanted to destroy such materials. That’s all,” she added.

Trabelsi, a former Tunisian professional soccer player who played for Fortuna Düsseldorf and Wuppertal soccer teams, was arrested in September 2001 and confessed that he planned to launch a terrorist attack on the U.S. Kleine Brogel base, which houses nuclear missiles, on the orders of al Qaeda. He was convicted by a court in Belgium and sentenced in 2003 to 10 years in prison.

Trabelsi was also indicted by a grand jury in Washington DC in 2007 for belonging to a criminal organization with intent to murder U.S. citizens abroad. He lodged an appeal to a decision by a Belgian court approving his extradition to the U.S.

“The Americans want him because they think he still has things to tell them regarding certain locations, certain individuals and they want to make him speak up,” said Naima in the 11-minute interview which was conducted in French. “They want my husband to tell them things which he maybe knows, I don’t know,” she added.

Trabelsi confessed to his Belgian interrogators that he had met al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden personally during his trip to Afghanistan in 2001.
