Sebai Says Ibn Sheikh al Libi Was Killed

A former Jihad member and head of the London based al Maqreze centre for Historic Studies claimed he had information from “trusted sources” in Libya that senior al Qaeda operative Ibn al Sheikh al Libi (Ali Abd al Aziz al Fakhiri) was killed by his Libyan captors and did not commit suicide as they claimed.

Libyan authorities announced on May 10, 2009, that Al Libi had committed suicide in his prison cell.

Ibn al Sheikh al Libi was a Libyan paramilitary trainer for al Qaeda. He ran al Qaeda’s Khaldan camp in Afghanistan and was captured by Pakistani officials at the end of 2001 or beginning of 2002 as he attempted to flee Afghanistan following the U.S. invasion.

After being captured and interrogated by U.S. and Egyptian forces, the information he gave was cited by the Bush Administration in the months preceding the 2003 invasion of Iraq as evidence of a connection between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda.

Al Libi Issues ‘Fatwa’ Calling on Pakistanis To Overthrow The Regime

Senior al Qaeda leader Abu Yehya al Libi released a new study about the political developments in Pakistan over the past decade. Al Libi concluded that the Pakistani had become part of what he called “the infidel coalition.” “Its army, intelligence and police now constitute the tip of the spear taking part in tearing our Muslim nation apart,” he wrote.

Al Libi thus decreed that it has become a duty on Muslims in Pakistan to fight against the Pakistani forces and work on overthrowing the government and replacing it with a religious authority that establishes the rule of Islam.

Al Libi said removing the current government was a religious duty and argued that it would not be possible except through fighting the army and the intelligence services.

The 30-page study was released by Al Fajr Media and is entitled “The Sharpened Sword To Fight Against The Government and Army of Pakistan.”

Al Libi had issued an appeal to a group of prominent Muslim scholars to issue religious edicts legitimizing “jihad” in Muslim countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia and Eastern Turkistan in a videotape released by As Sahab Media on April 21st.

Al Libi Salutes Scholars For Issuing Gaza Statement, Calls for Attacks on U.S., Europe

(As Sahab )
Senior al Qaeda figure Abu Yehya al Libi claimed that the “mujahedeen” all over the world are preparing to unleash their vengeance upon those responsible for “the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza” in a new video tape produced by al Qaeda’s mouthpiece As Sahab and released on militant Islamist websites Wednesday.

“The mujahideen from the east and the west are preparing to retaliate and avenge what happened and what is still happening to Muslims in Gaza at the hands of the Jews. It’s a debt in their conscience, and they shall know no rest until they pay it back…in full,” al Libi said.

Al Libi's speech came in reaction to a statement on Gaza war issued by a over a hundred Muslim scholars last January, which urged Muslims to support “jihad” in Gaza and labeled those who cooperated with the Israeli government apostates.

Al Libi urged the scholars to issue similar “fatwas,” i.e religious edicts legitimizing “jihad” in other Muslim land such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, and Eastern Turkistan. “Isn’t the tragedy in all those places the same? Aren’t all those enemies transgressors, infidels and impious?” exclaimed al Libi.

Al Libi asked the scholars to clarify to the Muslim nation that the United States and Israel formed one entity and that there wasn’t any difference between waging war against the Israeli army and striking against U.S. interests wherever they may be.

“Why should the U.S. be exempted from paying for its support just like Israel? And why shouldn’t we target it on its own land, and wherever it maybe, by bombing its military, political, economic and financial facilities?” He then turned his attention to Europe, saying that everything he said regarding the U.S. applied for Europe “especially the United Kingdom and France.”

Al Libi ended his message by saluting the scholars and discretely suggested that some form of cooperation between the two sides might be possible. “Such stances enables us to benefit from their knowledge, and put our hands in theirs…it’s a victory to the righteous that they called for.”

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden had himself issued an appeal to “the devoted committees of scholars in the Islamic world,” in an audio statement on Gaza that he released in mid-March. He asked them to establish an advisory body to create awareness about what he called true Islam amongst youths in Muslim countries, and about the future of the region.

Al Libi had released a video statement last February where he called on Somalis to rebel against newly elected president. His video released today runs over 58 minutes. He appeared sitting against a brown background, dressed a military jacket on top of his traditional dress, and a white turban on his head.

Al Libi Urges Jihad Against Newly Elected President in Somalia

(link)
Senior al Qaeda leader Abu Yehya al Libi, called the newly-elected Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed “a traitor and a conspirator” and urged militants to attacks his regime. The statement came, in a new video tape released by al Qaeda’s media wing As Sahab on a number of militant Islamist Internet forums Friday.

“The enemies of Islam wanted you to approve the establishment of a secular state that they decorated with the appointment of a traitor and an conspirator from those who altered what’s best with what’s worst,” al Libi said, adding that the new Somali government was nothing but another example of the U.S.-made administration model applied in Afghanistan. He compared the new Somali president to Afghani President Hamid Karzai and referred to Washington’s approval of the new president as evidence of him being a traitor.

Al Libi also hailed the Islamist militants’ “victory” over Ethiopian forces in Somalia and told them they’ve achieved such victory through their jihad and sacrifices and not through the United Nations or any other foreign intervention.

The Libyan al-Qaeda ideologue told jihadi leaders in Somalia not to drift from their initial ultimate goal, which is the establishment of an Islamic State governed by Islamic law. He stressed that they have to continue the fight until this goal is achieved.

Al Libi also called for attacks against peacekeeping forces present in Somalia, arguing that they constitute an occupation force that is just as bad as any other western occupation. “Continue to wage your campaigns against the Ugandan forces that are occupying your land and make them taste what you already inflicted upon the Crusader-Ethiopian forces. Kill them wherever you find them.”

By urging a fight against the new Somali government, al Libi silenced jihadi voices who called for “giving a chance” to the former militant leader of the Islamic Courts Union. Shortly after Sheikh Ahmad’s nomination, four Somali factions, including the militant Shabab al Mujahideen movement, announced the formation of a common front to fight Ahmad’s regime under the name of “The Islamic Party.” Other factions however were more indecisive with some voicing support to Sheikh Ahmad such as, including Jamaat al Sunna wal Jamaa, the Islamic Courts Union and the Muslim Brotherhood.

This is the second video appearance by al Libi this week and the fourth in 2009. Earlier in January, he issued a message where calling for attacks on Britain and other Western countries. Last week he appeared along with other top al-Qaeda leaders in a video tape paying homage to slain al Qaeda commander, Abu Laith al Libi.

Al Libi Prays for Failure of “Bush and His Party” In New Video

(al Sahab)

Senior al Qaeda leader Abu Yehya al Libi (the Libyan) released a new video tape, in which he appears giving a sermon to about 30 militants and praying for the failure of “Bush and his party.”

The tape, which was released by al Qaeda’s media wing al Sahab, shows al Libi as he arrives with two of his guards at a gathering place in the middle of the mountains. He hands his Kalashnikov to one of the men before he starts giving his 45-minute sermon. Two cameras are seen shooting the event.

The main topic of his speech, which was given on the occasion of the Muslim feast marking the end of Ramadan in early October, was the virtues of fighting the “jihad.”

Al Libi concludes the sermon by making supplications to God to “pour his torments onto America and its allies...make disasters rage upon them from every direction...and fail Bush and his party,” while his audience replied “Amen.”

Al Libi Issues New Book In Defense Of AQIM Fighters

(Al Fajr media )

Al Fajr media released a new 35-page document drafted by senior al Qaeda commander Abu Yehya al Libi, in which he defended members of al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) against the criticism leveled against them in the Algerian media. Al Libi refuted accusations that many of those killed in recent AQIM attacks were civilians and said that those who promote such claims are doing so in order to tarnish the image of the Islamist militants in the Maghreb. He also voiced his support of operations carried out by the group, claiming that religious texts support acting against “the infidels” and their “traitor agents” in North African countries.
