A Sense of Self…

Today we hit on a topic a lot of women, including myself, can relate to: the crazy, hectic lifestyle of being a mom -- whether you work or not.

Personally, I race from this job back home to a world of homework, soccer, ballet, and many heart-to-heart chats with my three daughters, deconstructing the daily dramas of what happened at school -- not to mention getting dinner on the table and squeezing in a few minutes to have an actual conversation with my husband. Sometimes it seems like a few minutes alone in the shower is the only time I get to myself! Doesn’t this all sound really familiar?

Our two guests today, Heather Reider and Mary Goulet, have a great Web site called MomsTown and have penned a new book entitled "It’s All About You," offering great tips on how to take away some of the stress and replace it with passion... reclaiming a sense of self. I am sure you can relate.

Dress For Success

(CBS/Victor Wijaya)
On our plaza with some of the women who got a jump start and are still getting support from Dress for Success.
We have had a great week with one of my favorite charities, Dress for Success. For years, I have been donating all my work clothes and separates to this organization, which helps women get back on their feet by dressing them for job interviews. Women who are disadvantaged, or have been in abusive relationships and who need to re-enter the workplace, find clothing and support in Dress for Success. It's amazing how something simple like a gently-worn professional outfit can lead to a new job and a new life! They also need shoes and bags and coats. There are Dress for Success office, too, so for more info, check out their Web site.

Now that we are switching our clothes from summer to fall, it's a great time to think about giving some things away. Thanks for helping to change another woman's life for the better!

    Kicking Off The Weekend

Happy Friday everybody! Today, a couple of my favorite gals stopped by our plaza -- soccer superstars Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy, who are the first women to be inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Mia has always been a fantastic inspiration and role model for many girls, including my own and I always love seeng her. She and her shortstop hubby, Nomar Garciaparra, had two baby girls 4 1/2 months ago. True to form, she looks incredible! So does Julie, who had a baby girl 8 months ago. Guess that comes with being a dedicated athete.

    "Saving Graces"

    (CBS)
This morning I saw Elizabeth Edwards for the first time in years. The wife of presidential candidate John Edwards was in the studio to chat about the paperback version of her New York Times best seller "Saving Graces." She has added a new chapter about the recurrence of her breast cancer, which is now incurable, and she talks about their decision to continue the campaign together as a family.

Many of you know Debbye as The Early Show's uber-fabulous veterinarian. She's a super-smart doctor who was the 1990 Miss America — and her list of accomplishments doesn't stop there. Debbye has also become a marathon runner in recent years and has raised a lot of money for charity.

Check out the smart and gorgeous Debbye and find out more about what inspires her.

I believe we all are created for a specific and wonderful purpose in life. And we have within us the tools, creativity and intelligence to fulfill our divine destinies.

The true secret to success is simply being who we are born to be and doing what we are born to do. And while life brings a good portion of challenges, trials and disappointments, if we are steadfast and unmovable in pursuing our dreams, we won't have to go looking for success. With hard work, faith, and determination, success will come find us! —

    Linda Fears: Family Ties

Linda is the editor in chief of Family Circle magazine. With kids of her own, she always brings a down-to-earth perspective on the issues we discuss on The Early Show segments, "In the Family Circle." I've loved writing for the magazine over the past several years and really appreciate Linda's enthusiasm about my input as a mom.

Read below to see who inspires Linda.

    (Family Circle)
One of the great things about my job is that I get to speak with 20 million women every month about what is most important to me — my family. As much as I try to inspire them with ways to make their family's life fuller and to help them raise their teens and tweens in a fit and healthy way, I'm continually overwhelmed by what they do to inspire me.

Sabrina Weill: From One Mom to Another

Sabrina Weill edited my book "Notre Dame Inspirations," and has continued to be a friend and advisor. She had a lot of input on this blog, and runs her own business, Weill Media, while raising two young kids. She launched Project: AngelMom, where moms help other mothers in need. Typical of Sabrina, it's an awesome idea.

Here she talks more about the inspiring project that is so important to her and how you can get involved.

I was a magazine editor for 14 years (I was formerly Editor-in-Chief of Seventeen) and often worked on stories about families in dire circumstances.

    Michele Blackwood: Cancer Heroine

Michele Blackwood has been on The Early Show a lot recently, trying to help our audience sort out all the research available about breast cancer. There is so much information that can be confusing at times and Michele has an incredible way of sorting it all out in a very straightforward and caring manner.

I really admire her work in a field that affects so many women! Find out wht inspires her.

    (CBS)
My goal in life is to help women take control of their health by offering them sound medical advice mixed with old-fashioned common sense, through my Web site Cathedral Healthcare System.

I counsel women daily about their medical conditions, how they can help themselves, when to ask others for help and to make sure they take care of themselves. I hope by sharing my medical knowledge and my experience as a mother, wife, daughter and patient, I can inspire others to care for themselves, their families and their friends.

    Donna Ducker: Making Her Mark

One in 10 children in this country is born with a birthmark and, as you may know, I have a prominent port-wine stain under my left eye that I cover with makeup. I know what it's like to grow up with people staring at your face and making insensitive comments.

This can also be really painful for any mother whose child suffers from the same treatment. Donna Ducker took charge when her son Evan wanted to write a book to help other kids understand his birthmark. Donna spent her life savings and devoted all of her time to making his dream come true.

    Victoria Rowell: Overcoming Obstacles

Many of you know Victoria as a soap star from "The Young and the Restless," but what you may not know about her is that she spent her entire youth as a ward of the state and in foster care. She's written an incredible book called "The Women Who Raised Me." A talented dancer and actress, Victoria's beautiful inside and out.

I asked Victoria to share her inspiration.

    (CBS)
I was never meant to be raised by one mother, but by many. That being said, I have had the good fortune of being raised in America's foster care system ... by Americans at their best. Women from all over the United States — immigrants, farmers, grande dames, even social workers — united, pulling together for one common goal: nurturing a child's simple vision to succeed and lead a life of independence with dignity. — Victoria Rowell
