Bill Bows Out

After a week of taping the show I co-host for Discovery's Planet Green network (G Word, with me and SuChin Pak) I'm back in action here at CBS. But as I return to one job, Microsoft's co-founder Bill Gates is leaving his. Well, sort of. Friday is his last day as chief software architect, but he'll still remain chairman of the board and the company's largest shareholder. Plus, I'm sure he'll keep Steve Ballmer (Microsoft CEO) on speed dial.

Cyber Thieves Picking Your Pocket?

It borders on "tin foil hat" territory but the vulnerablility is real. Many credit cards these days have an RFID (radio frequency identification) chip or "tag" embedded inside. It contains your credit card number and other personal details. The chips are "passive" meaning not powered, and in order to send a signal it must be placed in front of a reader at close range like a few inches. Plus the information is encrypted. But if a hacker got close enough to your wallet and was equipped with a special scanning device, the number COULD be stolen and read later. It got a couple of companies thinking about how to solve the problem, however unlikely or minor.

Buffering...buffering...

TGIF. U2? U23D?? Definitely. It's Friday and one of my New Year's resolutions was to update this Tech Talk blog more frequently. So, I've resolved to make the entries less wordy, more casual-y, and perhaps even timely. The subject matter will still be based in the high-tech domain but occasionally may branch out to include more pop culture stuff.
