To Infinity And...Your Questions

(AP Photo/NASA)
Space.

For some it's the ultimate frontier with (nearly) endless possibilities for exploration -- both manned and robotic. For others it's not worth the time and effort (and risk).

What are your thoughts? Should we invest more in earth science or deep-space telescopes? Who should be the next NASA chief? Does the Obama administration see the same emphasis on returning to the moon? What's out there?

Lots of questions, and I'll be hosting a live webcast on CBSNews.com starting at 1:00 p.m. EDT on Monday, May 11, so send your thoughts/queries to my Twitter account, Facebook, or post them here.

Watch Daniel Sieberg host Space Shuttle launch Webcast, 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 11
My guest during the webcast will be former shuttle program manager Wayne Hale, who will join us until about 1:50p. After that point, I'll stay online as we carry the live launch of Atlantis at 2:09p, as the crew is scheduled to rendezvous with the aging Hubble telescope and complete a slew of risky repairs.

Browser Wars

(Google)
How much thought do you put into your browser? For many, the answer is probably “not much.” For years, I lived with Internet Explorer (IE)—thinking it was the sole survivor after Netscape faded into oblivion. Some of you have probably had your internet service upped to get better speeds. Maybe you switched from DSL to cable or vice-versa. Maybe Fios was your answer. While those are important factors, it just might be your browser slowing you down. Let me say this—if you’re still using Internet Explorer, you’re wasting your time.

West Coast Report On iPhone Mania

I've been at the Apple store in Palo Alto, Calif. all morning watching the crowds snap up the new iPhone. Some people spent the night in line but there weren't nearly as any people as there were on June 29, last year when Apple released the original iPhone.

Thoughts On 25 Years In Newspapers

It’s ironic. On the 25th anniversary of my start as a newspaper columnist, the very newspaper that gave me that start laid off 250 people, including 150 editorial positions. The layoffs didn’t affect me, I stopped writing for the LA Times in 2002 but it’s still sad to see colleagues lose their jobs and to see likely further erosion of quality in one of the world’s best media outlets.

King Of The North

(CBS/Daniel Sieberg)
Hard to believe it’s been exactly a year since I traveled to the Arctic with our CBS crew – myself, producer Chloe Arensberg and cameraman Mark LaGanga. For those who remember our blog postings, you might also recall another passenger onboard that journey: my father, Doug. To mark the one-year anniversary, I’m posting a “video postcard” that encompasses both our time onboard the ship and some of my father’s history in the Arctic.

A Meter On Your Internet Service?

Just as Internet video is starting to take off, one of the nation’s largest broadband providers is experimenting with a pricing plan that could make it very expensive.

Last week Time Warner Cable started testing a $29.99 a month plan in Beaumont, Texas that gives users only 5 gigabytes of data to download or upload. Users who pay $54.90 a month have their service capped at 40 gigabytes.

Grand Theft Auto IV

(CBS)
The latest chapter in the controversial – and popular – “Grand Theft Auto” series hits stores on April 29. It’s set in the fictional place of Liberty City, which looks exactly like New York. That’s already angered local officials who say the signature sex and violence in the game will give people the wrong idea.

A Tech View From Istanbul

(AP)
I'm in Istanbul Turkey this week where I got a chance to test out the Lingo Navigator, a $70 pocket-sized gadget that translates and speaks out-loud in Turkish and 11 other languages. You can hear the Lingo itself and my comments on my podcast .

Put Your PC To Sleep

(AP)
That PC on your desk could be a major energy hog. It’s not so much the electricity it takes to use it, but the fact that it might be wasting energy while you’re not using it.
