Regretful Robber Sends New York Shopkeeper Mohammad Sohail an Apology Letter and Money

SHIRLEY, N.Y. - Mohammad Sohail, the Long Island store owner who showed mercy on a thief who tried to rob his convenience store earlier this year, got a special letter that made it all worthwhile.

It contained $50 and an apology.

In May, a bat-wielding robber tried to rob Sohail's store, but Sohail pulled out a rifle and quickly turned the tables.

NBA Star "World" B. Free's Ex-Lover Fatally Shot In New York

NEW YORK - Audrey Johnson, a longtime former companion of NBA All-Star Lloyd "World" B. Free, was killed in Brooklyn while trying to stop an assault outside her family's home.

Police said 51-year-old Johnson had just come back home when she heard about a confrontation on the sidewalk in front of her home. She came outside to see what was happening.

Catherine Woods' Killer Paul Cortez Wants a New Trial in Exotic Dancer Murder Case

NEW YORK - Paul Cortez, who in 2007 was convicted of murdering dancer Catherine Woods in her upper East Side apartment, wants his conviction reversed and is requesting a new trial because of "inept" representation, according to an appeal which notes that his lawyers didn't show up until the fourth day of his trial.

Twitter Goes Gangster: NY Thugs Plot Street War in 140 Characters or Less

NEW YORK - New York City gangs are fighting on an unlikely new turf - Twitter. Police say young thugs have taken to the popular Web site to plot attacks and fuel violence - all in 140 characters or less.

Police are catching on to the trend and are monitoring Twitter in the hopes of preventing further violence, according to the New York Daily News.

Nude Model Kathleen Neill Gets Off After Getting Naked in Met for Photog Zach Hyman

NEW YORK - Nude, yes. Lewd, no.

A New York judge dismissed public lewdness and other charges Monday against 26-year-old model Kathleen Neill who posed for a nude photo shoot at the Metropolitan Museum of Art while visitors looked on.

Neill, also known as "K.C.," was arrested in August during photographer Zach Hyman's shoot in the arms and armor department in the Met.

Daul Kim, South Korean Super Model, Found Hanged in Paris Apartment (PHOTOS)

PARIS - Daul Kim, a top model who graced Fashion Week runways from New York to Milan, has been found hanged in her Paris apartment, a police official said Friday.

The 20-year-old South Korean stunner was known for her thick mane of hair - sometimes dyed blond - and her quirky sensibility.

The 5-foot-10 model has strutted the runway for the likes of Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, and Dolce & Gabbana.

Facebook Alibi Frees Brooklyn Man Rodney Bradford from Jail

NEW YORK - Rodney Bradford, a 19-year-old New Yorker, has Facebook and a desire for pancakes to thank for his freedom.

Police had pegged Bradford as the man responsible for robbing two men at gunpoint Oct. 17 in the Brooklyn housing project where he lives. Bradford spent 12 days in jail on Riker's Island pleading his innocence, but it wasn't until his family produced a Facebook update message Bradford wrote on his father's computer in Harlem - eight miles from the holdup - that police were willing to listen.

New York Terror Trial: Giuliani Says Obama Too "Concerned with Rights of Terrorists"

NEW YORK - Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani saw firsthand the destruction that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is accused of masterminding September 11, 2001 as jetliners smashed into the Twin Towers.

Eight years later, the former Republican candidate for president in not mincing words with the Obama administration, saying Sunday that in bringing those accused of the Sept. 11 attacks to New York for trial, the President has become too concerned with the "rights of terrorists" and is oblivious to, what Giuliani feels, are the real dangers of radical Islam.

Bernie Madoff's New York Mets Jacket Sold For $14,500 at Auction

NEW YORK - It seems like a Mets fan with a strange sense of humor or history has helped the hard hit investors who collectively lost billions in Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme.

In an auction of Madoff and his wife's personal assets, Madoff's blue satin New York Mets baseball jacket with his surname stitched on the back was valued at only $720 but sold for $14,500.

Overall, the day's take was twice as much as New York auctioneers had hoped for.
