Casey Anthony Lawyers Seek to Block Death Penalty

ORLANDO, Fla. - Attorneys for Florida mother Casey Anthony, charged with killing her 2-year-old daughter, are expected to ask a judge to stop prosecutors from seeking the death penalty.

A hearing in Anthony's case is set to begin Friday morning in Orlando.

Catherine Woods' Killer Paul Cortez Wants a New Trial in Exotic Dancer Murder Case

NEW YORK - Paul Cortez, who in 2007 was convicted of murdering dancer Catherine Woods in her upper East Side apartment, wants his conviction reversed and is requesting a new trial because of "inept" representation, according to an appeal which notes that his lawyers didn't show up until the fourth day of his trial.

Amanda Knox: Sex-Game Murder Charge is "Pure Fantasy;" Italian Prosecutors Want Life Sentence

PERUGIA, Italy - The murder charges against Amanda Knox are "pure fantasy" according to the American student, who addressed an Italian court over the weekend.

Knox, along with two others, is accused in the fatal stabbing of her British roommate Meredith Kercher.

Italian prosecutors, in their closing arguments, said Knox and her Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, should be convicted on charges of murder and sexual violence for the 2007 slaying.

Amanda Knox Trial: Convicted Killer Fingers Knox for Meredith Kercher Murder

PERUGIA, Italy - Minutes before her death, British student Meredith Kercher was fighting with her American roommate Amanda Knox, according to Rudy Hermann Guede, the man already convicted of killing her.

There was a loud scream and Kercher ended up dead, the Ivory Coast native said at the opening of his appeal in a Perugia, Italy court.

Elizabeth Lambert Hair Pull Video Back In News: Soccer Player Speaks Out

NEW YORK - Elizabeth Lambert became an Internet celebrity for all the wrong reasons this fall. Now the suspended New Mexico soccer player, who was caught attacking opposing players on tape, has met with the New York Times to put the aggressive infractions into context.

Saying that her actions were "indefensible" in her first interview since the incidents occurred, Lambert, 20, told the Times that she still "deeply regrets it and will always regret it and will carry it through the rest of my life not to retaliate."

Robert "Joe" Halderman's Lawyer Asks Judge to Dismiss David Letterman Extortion Case

NEW YORK - A TV news producer accused of blackmailing David Letterman in exchange for keeping quiet about his sexual affairs was only trying to sell the late-night comic a screenplay, a defense lawyer said Tuesday.

Robert J. "Joe" Halderman's lawyer asked a judge to toss the attempted first-degree grand larceny case, saying the producer did nothing illegal in slipping Letterman documents alluding to the "Late Show" host's dalliances and taking a $2 million check from Letterman's lawyer.

David Letterman Extortion Suspect Robert "Joe" Halderman to Seek Dismissal of Case

NEW YORK - A lawyer for the TV news producer accused of blackmailing talk show host David Letterman plans to ask a judge to dismiss an extortion case that prompted the late-night comic to acknowledge affairs with staffers.

Robert "Joe" Halderman is due in a Manhattan court Tuesday. His defense attorney, Gerald Shargel, said he planned to challenge whether the evidence presented to a grand jury was sufficient and ask a judge to dismiss the attempted first-degree grand larceny charge against his client.
