Balloon Boy Sheriff Won't be Charged For Blabbing About Child Welfare Investigation

NEW YORK - The Colorado Sheriff who disclosed that "Balloon Boy's" parents, Richard and Mayumi Heene, were being investigated by child welfare will not face criminal charges, according to a special prosecutor.

David Lane, attorney for Richard Heene, father of the infamous "Balloon Boy," claimed the revelation by Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden violated privacy laws.

SAO PAULO - It may sound shocking, but in the land of thong bikinis and Carnival, 20-year-old student Geisy Arruda says she was expelled from a Brazilian university for wearing a dress that was just too darn sexy.

Bandeirante University said they booted her for flashing on campus an disrespecting "academic dignity."

Either way, the tourism student who was heckled by hundreds of fellow students when she wore a short, pink dress to class and then became a Brazilian television and Internet sensation for fighting back, has gotten a team of lawyers and threatened to sue.

DC Sniper John Allen Muhammad Died Better Than Victims

JARRATT, Virginia - It was a peaceful end for John Allen Muhammad, the man behind the 2002 Washington D.C.-area sniper attacks - a peace not granted to Muhammad's 10 victims, nor the families they have left behind.

Calm, stoic and defiant to the end, Muhammad refused to utter any final words. He died by injection at 9:11 p.m. Tuesday as relatives of the victims watched, reliving the killing spree that terrorized the Washington, D.C., area for three weeks that October.

Nancy Garrido's Lawyer Removed in Jaycee Lee Dugard Trial

NEW YORK - The defense attorney for Nancy Garrido, who allegedly held Jaycee Lee Dugard captive for 18 years while her husband allegedly raped and impregnated her, has been removed from the case.


Court documents show that Gilbert Maines was removed during a closed hearing in El Dorado Superior Court on Thursday. However, Judge Douglas Phimister immediately stayed the decision until another hearing Nov. 30.

Ex-NASA Astronaut Lisa Nowak: Guilty Plea in Bizarre "Space Love Triangle"

ORLANDO, Fla. - Don't invade their space!

A judge has given the order to former NASA astronaut Lisa Nowak to stay away from her onetime romantic rival and her rival's boyfriend. Nowak was on a strange mission in February 2007, when she drove 1,000 miles from Houston to Orlando to confront Colleen Shipman.

Tuesday she pled guilty in the attack on Shipman, and was sentenced to a year of probation.

Scott Roeder Admits Killing Kansas Abortion Doctor George Tiller; Says He Has No Regrets

WICHITA, Kan. - Defiant and unapologetic, a man accused of shooting a Kansas abortion provider confessed to the slaying Monday, telling The Associated Press that he killed the doctor to protect unborn children.

Scott Roeder, 51, of Kansas City, Missouri, spoke to the AP in a telephone call from jail, saying he plans to argue at his trial that he was justified in shooting Dr. George Tiller.

United Airlines Pilot Grounded on Suspicion of Being Drunk Shortly Before Takeoff

NEW YORK - Yet another U.S. pilot has been found behaving badly, and this time authorities did something about it before the plane took off.

A United Airlines pilot was pulled from a plane and arrested shortly before takeoff after a co-worker suspected him of being drunk, police and airline officials said Tuesday.

NEW YORK - A TV news producer accused of blackmailing David Letterman in exchange for keeping quiet about his sexual affairs was only trying to sell the late-night comic a screenplay, a defense lawyer said Tuesday.

Robert J. "Joe" Halderman's lawyer asked a judge to toss the attempted first-degree grand larceny case, saying the producer did nothing illegal in slipping Letterman documents alluding to the "Late Show" host's dalliances and taking a $2 million check from Letterman's lawyer.
