Problem with Your Bank? Take it to YouTube

(You Tube)
Have you ever felt like David when going up against the Goliath that is most major banks?

Well, some customers fed up with high banking fees and interest rate hikes are taking to the internet to rail against their banks.

Ann Minch of California posted this YouTube video after Bank of American raised the interest rate on her credit card from 13 percent to 30 percent.

She vowed not to pay them one more cent until they changed her rate back.

More than 250,000 people viewed her video and many posted their own complaints against their banks.

Bank of America called her and changed her rate back.

How’s that for results? Watch the CBS Evening News tonight and we will show you how consumers are being heard and how two major banks are lowering fees because of it.

Meet The Parents (Who Blog)

(CBS)
I have to confess, before last Friday I didn’t know very much about “Mommy Blogs.” It wasn’t a world I inhabited, and I wasn’t sure what to expect.

The Silicon Valley Moms Group was in town for the annual BlogHer conference, a gathering for women entrepreneurs in the Web world, so we invited them to my office for a visit. There was no better way to learn who they were, and why they wrote about their lives online.

Many of these women blog from home while raising young children. Some have jobs outside the home and spend their free time online with their friends. All of them are smart, successful, and tech savvy.

Since the meeting I’ve been reading through some of the blogs to see what they’re like and what subject matter they discuss.

It is not just cookie recipes and potty training tips. These women tackle everything from the 2008 presidential election to who will win American Idol. They exchange ideas, boost each other up, and keep each other informed about the world around them.

The comments on the blogs are as interesting as the entries themselves. Real conversations are happening on these sites. As one blogger from NYC Moms Blog said, it’s like the world’s biggest college classroom.

Watch This: Colon Cancer Awareness on YouTube

(CBS)
As many of you know, I lost my husband Jay to colon cancer 10 years ago.

Since then, colon cancer awareness and prevention have been causes near to my heart. And March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness month. My message: Early detection saves lives. I'd like to urge everyone over 50 to get screened.

Over the past decade, a lot of people have helped me get this message out – and we've made a lot of PSAs along the way. Some of them are inspiring. Some are really funny. So we decided to compile some of the best in a single video.

I posted it on my YouTube channel. You'll find it in the featured box at the top of the page. While you're there, check out the other stuff I've been posting — you'll get a good idea of what I've been up to behind the scenes. It's sort of "Katie Unplugged."

YouTube And Our Debate

Since the YouTube/CNN debate last night seemed geared to the YouTube generation, we thought it would be interesting to hear from the target audience. Eric Kuhn, a 20-year-old summer intern here at CBS, and a student at Hamilton College in upstate New York, filed his impressions for us. -- Ed.
(AP)
When I first became a summer intern at CBS News a few months ago, I wondered if I could contribute to this blog. I was really interested in news (obviously) and politics, but how could I compete with the knowledge and background of all of our reporters (come on, they just hired Jeff Greenfield!) and producers? After all, I just turned 20 and about to enter my junior year at Hamilton College, where I am majoring in government.

But, after watching the YouTube Democratic Debate on CNN last night, I found my perfect blog idea, because it was about my friends and me. I grew up in a small town outside of New York City where political discussion is everywhere, whether it’s about tree removal or national elections. While my friends certainly know who is running for president, sitting down to watch a two hour debate on a Monday night is not everyone’s top priority. At first I thought only a few of my peers (like a friend who is interning for CNN) would watch last night’s debate, but on the train into work today, with other commuting interns, everyone was talking about YouTube’s presence on the debate stage.

To add another voice to the echo chamber, I thought the debate last night was historic. Historic, not in the sense of “old media” or even “new media.” It was historic because it was “OUR media,” the media of my generation. And you can bet that if we paid attention, CNN had our attention the entire time, due to the fast-aced, new format...

Katie Couric's Notebook: YouTube

Hi everyone.

From Republican presidential contender Rudy Giuliani saying in 1989 that he supports public funding for abortion...to Democratic hopeful John Edwards spending an eternity styling his hair, the videos on YouTube are embarrassing the candidates -- and changing American politics.

But is it a change for the better?

Now, EVERY move from EVERY candidate is subject to scrutiny...and no mistake goes unpunished.

"The campaigns are no longer in control," says veteran political strategist Simon Rosenberg, and voters have the power not just to donate money, but to broadcast opposition research, and create their own negative advertising.

But voters also have a responsibility to judge these candidates fairly. To decide whether a candidate's position has changed for political reasons--or principled ones. To distinguish between unacceptable behavior...and acknowledging that everyone makes mistakes.

That's a page from my notebook.
