Today marks the beginning of two days of Congressional testimony on Iraq.

You might not know it, but there are actually two men speaking today> Next to top military man General Petraeus is Ambassador Ryan Crocker. Political progress is his job — and that's just as important as military progress.

General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker returned to Capitol Hill this morning to make the case that despite recent violence in Iraq, political progress and economic progress are on the rise as a result of the troop surge.

But all eyes - and camera lenses - in the packed Armed Services Committee room were on Sens. John McCain and Hillary Rodham Clinton.

After spending yesterday with Gen. Petraeus, I observed him to be a leader who is approaching the psychology of winning over the Iraqis differently than his predecessors. Gen. Petraeus says he is trying to secure neighborhoods and create a feeling of safety in daily life, as opposed to merely routing out the enemy.
