On July 9, 2010, the first in a series of audio recordings purported to be of Mel Gibson were posted on celebrity website RadarOnline.com. In the recordings, a man who sounds like the Oscar-winner is heard making racist and sexist remarks in an argument with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, along with threatening and acknowledging that he hit her.
In a plea deal, the actor pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery stemming from the Jan. 6, 2010, incident, and was sentenced to 36 months of probation and ordered to attend 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling.
In 2006, Gibson unleashed a now-infamous anti-Semitic tirade to police following a drunk driving arrest. He later apologized for his "despicable" comments and "out of control" behavior.
