Israeli commandos on Monday stormed six ships carrying hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists on an aid mission to the blockaded Gaza Strip, killing at least 10 people and wounding dozens after encountering unexpected resistance upon boarding the vessels. Israel insisted its forces fired in self defense.

Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan described Israel's pre-dawn commando raid as "state terrorism." Speaking in Chile, Erdogan said that Israel has shown that it does not want peace in the region and has violated international law.
The protesters in Taksim Square were more vocal, chanting, "Murderous Israel, you will drown in the blood you shed!"
