"X-Men: Days of Future Past": New clip unmasked at 2014 MTV Movie Awards

One of the best parts of the 2014 MTV Movie Awards was getting to see new clips from upcoming films, like "X-Men: Days of Future Past."

An exclusive sneak peek from the mutant-friendly sequel was unveiled at Sunday night's awards ceremony, promising plenty of action from Professor Xavier and the gang in the latest installment.

The new footage, taken from the film's opening sequence, shows Ellen Page reprising her role as Kitty Pyrde, a.k.a. Shadowcat, banding with fellow mutants Warpath (Booboo Stewart), Sunspot (Adam Canto), Bishop (Omar Sy) and Blink (Fan Bingbing) to fight off a giant robotic Sentinel.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" will see older characters reunited with their younger counterparts. The film merges the casts from the franchise's first trilogy, like Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, with stars from the prequel films, such as James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.

Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Peter Dinklage, Evan Peters, Anna Paquin and Halle Berry also star.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" flies into theaters on May 23.
