White House turkeys compete for pardon on Twitter

Some turkeys are having a better week than others

If it's Thanksgiving at the White House, it's a great day for two lucky turkeys.

The White House announced its annual turkey pardoning competition Wednesday, pitting the two turkeys, "Mac" and "Cheese," against each other on Twitter to see who will attend the annual turkey pardoning ceremony.

Mac, a White House blog post says, is a 47 lb., 33-inch tall male turkey born July 7. His strut style is "feather-shaker," while his gobble is described as, "rhythmic, melodious, with a touch of bluegrass." He boasts a wingspan of 4 feet.

His competition, Cheese, shares his birthday, but the similarities end there. Cheese is more of a "grand champion" strutter, the White House says, and his gobble is, "loud, romantic, with a country ring to it." He clocks in at 49 lbs. and 36 inches tall with an impressive wingspan of 4.5 feet.

They both hail from Cooper Farms in Oakwood, Ohio. Because the farm is in the district of House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, he plans to attend the annual ceremony.

Boehner also shared his brine recipe -- dubbed "The Boehner Brine" -- for those who plan to eat, rather than pardon, their turkeys this Thursday.

Interested parties can help select which turkey takes part in the ceremony (though both will be spared from appearing on a Thanksgiving table) by tweeting whether they are #TeamMac or #TeamCheese.
