Trump campaign manager on man who shouted "Jew-S-A": "His conduct was deplorable"
A man at a Donald Trump rally Saturday night walked up to the press section at Saturday and shouted “Jew-S-A” — and Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said Sunday that his behavior was “deplorable.”
“That man’s conduct was deplorable,” Conway told CNN. “His conduct is completely unacceptable and does not reflect our campaign or our candidate.”
“And had I been there, I would have asked security to remove him immediately,” she continued. “Clearly, he doesn’t speak for the campaign or the candidate.”
During Trump’s Saturday night rally in Phoenix, a man in a “Hillary for Prison” t-shirt walked up to the press pen as the crowd was chanting “U-S-A! U-S-A!” He looked at reporters and began screaming, “Jew-S-A!”
The specific word Conway used to describe the man -- “deplorable” -- has become somewhat of a loaded word in the 2016 campaign. Back in September, Hillary Clinton came under fire for saying that many of Trump’s supporters could be put in a “basket of deplorables,” saying many of them are racist or bigoted.
Since then, Trump’s supporters have taken up the word as a way to describe themselves. At one rally, Trump even walked out to a song from the musical “Les Miserables”—with a backdrop behind him that read, “Les Deplorables.” “Welcome to all you deplorables!” he said.
Conway insisted Sunday that Trump has, in the past, denounced supporters who use language that is offensive.
“Let me just repeat on his behalf that that’s the way his campaign feels,” she said. “...Don’t besmirch the good name of the tens of thousands, the millions of Trump supporters.”
