State of the Union Scheduled for Jan. 25
President Obama is set to deliver his State of the Union address before Congress on Jan. 25.
The president has accepted an invitation from House Speaker John Boehner, sent in a letter today that notes an opportunity for bipartisan cooperation.
"A new Congress provides us a renewed opportunity to find common ground and address the priorities of the American people," the letter said.
The new Republican leader also paid recognition to Saturday's mass shooting in Tucson, Ariz., which shocked the nation and spurred the House to call off its regular business for the week.
"Recent events have reminded us of the imperfect nature of our representative democracy, but also how much we cherish the ideal that our government exists to serve the people," Boehner wrote. "Even in the wake of tragedy, we must never waiver from our obligation to carry out their will and provide solutions to keep moving our nation forward."
This will be Mr. Obama's second State of the Union address, in which he will lay out his policy agenda for the coming year. It will be his fourth appearance before a joint session of Congress.
