Shelley Tyre's Dive Log

Read excerpts of Shelley Tyre's dive log, which was an exhibit in the criminal trial of her husband, David Swain.

PANIC
Dive 167, a night dive, Shelley notes that she had some "initial panic" descending, and writes that the weight issue is "her panic button."

On dive 266 she says is "the worst dive ever" and writes, "I admit, I panicked."

On dive 274 she also writes, "Panicked a little. Or more."

The prosecution dive experts said the use of the word panic in Shelley's log is not the same as a full scale panic that could lead to death. And prosecution experts pointed out Shelley solved the problems that came up in these dives.

David Swain's defense made much of the point that Shelley and David did not always stay together on dives, and that Shelley had done solo dives before. "48 Hours" found two dives in Shelley's log (out of 354) marked as "solo." Of course, David signs off as her buddy on many dives, so it's hard to be sure how often they separated when they dove together.

SHELLEY'S LAST DIVE
Dive 355 was Shelley's last dive, the dive at the wreck of two tug boats, the Marie L. and the Pat. The site is between Salt and Cooper Islands in the British Virgin Islands, about 45 minutes from Tortola by boat.
