Report: Owner of posh NY wedding hall shot in parking lot

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. – The owner of a storied mansion-turned-wedding palace on New York’s Long Island was shot in the parking lot of the establishment Monday, reports CBS New York.

Suffolk County police say the man, whom they declined to identify, was hospitalized after the shooting around 12:30 p.m. Monday at Oheka Castle in Huntington.

CBS New York identified the victim as Gary Melius and said he was taken to Syosset Hospital.

No other information was immediately available.

Built to resemble a French chateau, Oheka Castle was one of America's biggest private homes when it was built for financier Otto Hermann Kahn in 1919.

It's now a hotel that has hosted the weddings of famous names, including Kevin Jonas of the Jonas Brothers and former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner.

It also been seen as a backdrop in a number of movies and television shows, and in magazine photo shoots.
