FORT WORTH, Texas- Police are now investigating after finding eight bodies Tuesday morning unattended in a vacant funeral home in Fort Worth, Texas.
Police Sgt. Raymond Bush says the property owner a couple of weeks ago told Johnson Family Mortuary to vacate the building. He says the owner returned Tuesday to find eight bodies in the building but no workers. Bush says the bodies were in various stages of decomposition and ranged from infants to adults.
The Johnson Family Mortuary is owned by twin brothers Dondre' and Derrick Johnson. The men dispute any claims of neglect and said the bodies were not left behind on purpose, reports CBS DFW.
No charges have been filed. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office has taken custody of the bodies.
Texas Funeral Service Commission attorney Kyle Smith says the mortuary's state license expires this month and it's the focus of five commission investigations.
Calls to the business Tuesday found the line disconnected.
