What did the first family buy on Small Business Saturday?

Observing an all-American tradition of holiday shopping in the days following Thanksgiving, President Obama, along with daughters Sasha and Malia, took a trip to a local Washington, D.C., bookstore early Saturday afternoon.

The bookstore visit marked the family's first stop on Small Business Saturday, a shopping holiday meant as a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

According to the White House, the president and his two daughters purchased the following while at Upshur Street Books:

  • "Purity: A Novel" by Jonathan Franzen
  • "Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights: A Novel" by Salman Rushdie
  • "Elske: A Novel of the Kingdom" by Cynthia Voigt
  • "On Fortune's Wheel" by Cynthia Voigt
  • "Jackaroo: A Novel of the Kingdom" by Cynthia Voigt
  • "A Snicker of Magic" by Natalie Lloyd
  • "Stargirl" by Jerry Spinelli
  • "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck, Book 8" by Jeff Kinney
  • "Dork Diaries 1: Tales from a Not-So-Fabulous Life" by Rachel Renée Russell

  • The trio later stopped at Pleasant Pops, a boutique market and cafe in D.C.'s Adams Morgan neighborhood.

    CBS Radio News White House correspondent Mark Knoller reported that Mr. Obama ordered the strawberry ginger lemonade popsicle while Sasha sampled the cookies and cream flavor and Malia the cranberry apple.
