Lady Gaga sets Twitter record with 20 million followers

(CBS News) Lady Gaga is the social media queen. Thanks to her "Little Monsters," the pop star now has 20 million followers on Twitter - the most ever on the site.

She beats out Justin Bieber with 18.1 million, Katy Perry with 15.7 million and Shakira with nearly 14.6 million followers. Rihanna is close behind with more than 14.5 million followers, a sign that music artists rule on Twitter.

Remember when actor Ashton Kutcher challenged CNN to reach 1 million Twitter followers back in 2009? The site's popularity has clearly grown; Kutcher now has 9.6 million followers and the CNN Breaking News Twitter page has attracted 6.6 million.

Lady Gaga posts a pretty steady flow of tweets, updating fans about her latest projects. She recently wrote about her Born This Way Foundation launch:
